Williamson and Leonard garner All-Region status

Bethlehem, PA – Following an appearance in its second consecutive Patriot League Championship game as well as a school and league record ninth consecutive winning season, Lehigh received two more honors on Monday when juniors Adam Williamson and Elliot Leonard were named to the NSCAA/Adidas Mid-Atlantic Regional All-American Team. Williamson garnered First-Team honors, while Leonard was a Third-Team selection and both of these players were First-Team All-Patriot League selections after helping Lehigh to a 12-7-2 record in 2004. This is the eighth consecutive season that Lehigh has placed a player on the All-Region team and the sixth time out of those eight years that more than one player was chosen.

Williamson came on strong this season using his speed and elusiveness to earn the First-Team nod. The junior from Petersburg, New Jersey started all 21 games for Lehigh, scoring four goals and handing out four assists, good for 12 points, third best on the team. Williamson also ranked first in the Patriot League with three game-winning goals and 67 shots on the year. Williamson was named the Patriot League’s Offensive Player of the Week two times and also received recognition in early October when he was named to the collegesoccernews.com National Team of the Week.

Leonard returned from a foot injury this season after being sidelined for most of the past two years and the Mountain Hawks reaped the benefits on the defensive side of things with his toughness. Leonard started 19 games for the Mountain Hawks in 2004, helping to anchor a defense that led the Patriot League in goals allowed (12), goals allowed per game (0.55) and shutouts (11). The 0.55 GAA also ranks fifth in America, while the eleven shutouts break the school record set just last season by the Brown and White.

Head Coach Dean Koski is pleased to see these two young men receive recognition, as well as the entire Lehigh soccer program. “This is a great tribute and honor for Adam and Elliot and based on their performance for us this season, I am not surprised by the selection.” Koski continues, “This is the first time in two years that Elliot was back on the field playing, and so to receive this honor is exceptional and for Adam to be a First-Team choice is just wonderful.” Koski concludes, “I couldn’t be happier for these two young men or for our program.”
