O'Reilly named Offensive Player of the Week

Bethlehem, PA – After scoring the lone goal in Lehigh’s huge 1-0 victory over archrival Lafayette on Saturday evening, Lehigh sophomore John O’Reilly was named the Patriot League’s Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. O’Reilly scored his goal at the 22:40 mark off of an assist from Joe Verdi to give the Mountain Hawks all of the offense they would need on the night. The Mountain Hawks, ranked tenth in the Mid-Atlantic Region, currently sit at 9-5-2 on the season and 3-2-1 in league play with one Patriot League contest remaining.

O’Reilly’s goal was his third of the season and his second game-winner in 2004. In the Mountain Hawks 2-1 victory over Cornell in the season opener, O’Reilly found the back of the net with just 91 seconds remaining in the second overtime to lift the Brown and White to the dramatic victory at home.

O’Reilly was honored during his freshman season as the Freshman of the Week following his performance in Lehigh’s Patriot League Tournament berth clinching victory over Navy on November 11. O’Reilly stepped in for several injured Mountain Hawks on the defensive side of the field and played his best soccer of the season down the stretch.

Lehigh returns to action on Tuesday evening when the Mountain Hawks travel to Brooklyn to take on Long Island University. Game time is set for 7:00.
