Mountain Hawks head to Hamilton on Saturday
10/22/2004 12:00:00 AM | Men's Soccer
Lehigh is led on offense by the Patriot League’s reining Offensive Player of the Week in junior Jim Stevens, who leads both Lehigh and the Patriot League in goals with seven and points with 15. Freshman Patrick Starsinic and junior Adam Williamson have also contributed mightily on the offense for the Mountain Hawks, with Williamson finding the back of the net four times, three of which were game-winners and Starsinic connecting for four scores and one assist of his own.
The real story of this year’s Mountain Hawk club however, is the defense being played. Lehigh currently ranks third in the nation in goals against average at 0.44, and is on pace to shatter the school record, set just last season. Lehigh is also on pace to break the school record for shutouts in one season, which was also set last season with ten. This year’s edition has already allowed no goals in seven matches. Senior Sam Bishop and freshman Charlie Sales have combined forces in goal for Lehigh, with Bishop being named the Patriot League’s Defensive player of the Week earlier this season and Sales garnering Rookie of the Week accolades after a five save shutout performance versus the Bison last time out.
Colgate is sitting at 8-6 overall on the season, and 1-3 in league play, so Saturday’s match is pivotal for the Raiders in terms of postseason tournament aspirations. The Raiders lost to No. 20 Hartwick on Wednesday by a score of 4-0. These two teams battled to a 1-1 tie in double overtime in South Bethlehem last season and the Mountain Hawks have not lost to Colgate since dropping a 2-1 decision in 1998.
