Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh is off to an impressive 5-1-1 start and is beginning to receive recognition for their work. Freshman Maciek (Magic) Serafin has been named the Patriot League’s Rookie of the Week and junior goalkeeper Sam Bishop has been honored with the Defensive Player of the Week award after the Mountain Hawks completed a perfect 2-0 road trip against Delaware in Newark and James Madison in Harrisonburg, VA.
Serafin netted his first two collegiate goals in the 5-2 win over Delaware on Wednesday including the game-winner and backed that performance up with another goal, also a game winner, against James Madison on Sunday. Bishop has been the backbone of a defense that has stifled opponents all season long, holding the opposition to a paltry .40 goals against average. Against Delaware, Bishop held off a flurry of Blue Hen shots and recorded three saves to help the Mountain Hawks pick up the win. Then against James Madison, Bishop was up to his old tricks, sending back every shot that came his way. He picked up six more saves and with the shutout, he now has six on the season in only seven games. Bishop is now within three shutouts of the school record and has only yielded those two goals in a whopping 670 minutes of action.
Lehigh returns to the field this week when it hosts Drexel on Wednesday night from the Ulrich Sports Complex. It will be the Mountain Hawks first home game since late August. Game time is slated for 7:00 and can be heard live on Lehigh’s website. Lehigh will then open Patriot League play on Saturday when the Brown and White travel to Worcester, MA to take on Holy Cross at 3:00.
