Khayla Atte ’05 was elevated to head coach for the Lehigh women’s track and field program in August 2022 and added men's track and field head coaching responsibilities in June 2023. She is in her fifth season on the staff after previously serving as an assistant coach working primarily with the sprints and hurdles.
The 2021-22 season was highlighted by four school records being broken in the women's program; Melissa Cunningham (60m, 200m indoor, 200m outdoor) and Penn Relay East Division Championship 4x100 relay (Webb, Struck, Griffin, Cunningham). Jonathan Bennett had a solid indoor season on the men's side that included a school record in the 60-meter hurdles. In addition to these records, Atte has coached one Patriot League champion and one ECAC all-east competitor. The season boasted the addition of 10 sprinters to the “Top 10” all-time list. In her first season, Zach DeLone broke the school record in the indoor 200 meters.
Off the track, Atte is a Lehigh Athletics’ Diversity, Inclusion, Equity, and Anti-Racism advisory council member. She is a founding advisor for Lehigh’s of Student-Athletes of Color and is a member of the Patriot League’s Anti-Racism committee. She was awarded the 2021 Club Advisor of the Year award by the Dean of Students Office.
Before returning to Lehigh, Atte spent six years at William Penn Charter School, where she began as an assistant track and field coach before being elevated to Head Girls Track and Field Coach, a position she held from 2014-18. Atte coached five individual Inter-Act Conference champions, broke nine school records, and won the indoor PIAA Distance Medley Relay. Atte coached the girl's distance medley relay to a ninth-place finish at New Balance Indoor & Outdoors Nationals. Atte has also served as a private coach with Form Mechanics; she was responsible for identifying top talent and developing training and recruitment plans.
A Pittsburgh native, the former Khayla Lowe was a four-year letter winner for the Mountain Hawks from 2001-2005. During her time, she won a Patriot League championship in the indoor pentathlon in 2004, earned all-league honors, and remains on the pentathlon all-time top 10 lists. Atte graduated from Lehigh in 2005 with Fine Art and Africana Studies degrees.
Atte’s certifications include USATF Level 1. She is currently pursuing her Master’s in Sport Leadership at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU).
She resides in Philadelphia with her husband Tita and children Talia and Matthias.
