Amy Hough enters her fifth season as a Lehigh women’s soccer assistant coach in 2015. Hough has served as head coach Eric Lambinus’ top assistant since arriving on campus following her hiring on Feb. 17, 2011 and assists in all aspects of the program, including being the program’s recruiting coordinator as well as working with the goalkeepers.
Hough came to Lehigh from nearby La Salle University where she helped lead to the Explorers to the Atlantic 10 Semifinals in her final season. A former La Salle goalkeeper herself, Hough previously had extensive coaching experience with the Explorers, the Philadelphia Independence (WP0S) and various camps.
Hough made an immediate impact with a young Mountain Hawks’ squad in 2011 as Lehigh posted a 6-9-2 record and 2-3-1 in Patriot League play. The season had its bright spots as the Mountain Hawks tied eventual league champion Army while beating Patriot League finalist Navy. Lehigh was in every game, with all six of its league contests finishing within a goal. Pepe and Murphee Greeley were each named First Team All-Patriot League performers while freshman goalie Ashley Blanks posted the sixth lowest goals against average in program history (1.14).
The following season, the Mountain Hawks clawed their way back from an 0-4 Patriot League record by winning their last three league games to qualify for the Patriot League Tournament. Included was a thrilling overtime win over Bucknell and a 1-0 shutout of Colgate, handing the eventual league champion Raiders their first Patriot League loss of the season.
Lehigh was right in the postseason mix for most of the 2013 season, finishing 3-6-0 in the league with four of its losses coming by a single goal. The Mountain Hawks saw Murphee Greeley earn her third straight All-Patriot League honor while the Lehigh goalkeepers impressed. Hough coached Blanks to a 1.01 goals against average, good for fifth in school history.
In 2014, the Mountain Hawks began league play with a school record six-game unbeaten streak, including a win at archrival Lafayette and tie vs. eventual Patriot League Champion Boston University. Lehigh was stellar defensively, tallying six shutouts on the season and finishing the year with a team goals against average of 0.94 and a .805 save percentage. Ani Nahaeptian tallied a miniscule 0.69 GAA and .860 save percentage.
Hough was a four-year letterwinner for La Salle during the 2005-08 seasons, highlighted by a Second Team All-Conference season in 2006. She was also named the team’s Rookie of the Year in 2005, while garnering the Coaches Award in ’08. Hough finished second on the school’s career and single-season goals against average lists.
Right after graduating, Hough transitioned into a position as assistant coach for the Explorers. She was heavily involved in the recruiting process, which included managing a database of over 800 prospective student-athletes, communicating with over 100 prospective student-athletes, organizing and documenting campus visits and more. Hough organized and conducted individual and team practices, working closely with the goalkeepers. She also executed alumni functions in conjunction with women’s soccer events.
In her final season at La Salle, Hough helped lead the Explorers to a place it had only been once before – the Atlantic 10 Semifinals. The squad finished the season 11-9-2 and in sixth place in the A-10 before upsetting third-seeded Duquesne in the quarterfinals.
Hough has also served as Volunteer Assistant Coach for the Philadelphia Independence (WPS) since January, 2010. She has worked with and trained some of the top international and former collegiate players such as Karina Le Blanc, Heather Mitts, Lori Lindsay, Amy Rodriguez and Caroline Seger. While there, Hough analyzed games with match analysis software.
Hough also has experience in various camps, including OneonOne Soccer (Lancaster, Pa.) where she trained goalkeepers and field players ranging from age eight to 21. She has served as Co-Director of Goalkeeping Academy for the Explorer Girls Soccer Academy, while working as a Personal Goalkeeper Instructor since 2004. Hough is also working on staff with U.S. Soccer National Training Centers.
A 2009 graduate of La Salle, Hough graduated Maxima Cum Laude (University Honors) with a B.A. in Psychology. She completed her MBA from La Salle in 2012 with a concentration in Accounting.
