Shreve attended Syracuse where he played four years of midfield for Roy Simmons Jr.  He graduated in 1973 with a degree in Recreational Management.  He went on to do graduate work at Cortland State College from 1973-1975, where he also served as assistant lacrosse coach for two seasons and an assistant football coach for one season.  Prior to coming to Lehigh he was the head lacrosse coach at Binghamton High (NY) where he taught and coached for 11 seasons.

Shreve brings extensive coaching experience to the Mountain Hawks.  He has been involved with a championship team at every level of lacrosse.  In addition to playing on a high school championship team at Fayetteville-Malius (NY), he coached in three championship programs.  While at Cortland State, the 1975 team won the National Championship.  In 1996 he became one of four coaches selected by the National Interscholastic Lacrosse Association to coach the Under-19 USA World Team.  The team traveled to Japan for the World Games where it defeated Australia in the final game to win the World Championship.  Shreve also was serving as assistant coach at Lehigh during the 1999 season when the Mountain Hawks last captured the Patriot League Championship.
