Roger Simpkins is in his fourth season as head coach of the Lehigh women’s golf team. Simpkins led Lehigh to one first place finish during the 2008 fall season at the Kutztown Invitational and also to a fourth place finish at the 2008 ECAC Division I Championships. During the 2009 spring season Simpkins led Lehigh to a victory over Penn in a head-to-head match, while two of his Mountain Hawks placed in the top-20 individually at other tournaments.
Simpkins guided the Mountain Hawks to three first place finishes in 2007 as well as a second place finish in the 2007 ECAC Division I Championships. Before becoming head coach, Simpkins was associated with the Lehigh women’s golf program as its teaching professional, where he helped the players’ skills progress for four years.
Simpkins graduated from the University of Maryland in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science degree. While at Maryland, he was an NCAA All-American honoree and was selected to the First-Team All-Atlantic Coach Conference in 1975 and 1976.
Simpkins has encountered success professionally, garnering the 1979 and 1981 Middle Atlantic PGA Player of the Year award. Simpkins has also won 16 individual tournaments in his professional career. In 1984, he became a PGA of America Class A Professional.
Since 1980, Simpkins has served as a golf professional at four different country clubs. In the early 80’s, he was the Assistant Golf Professional at Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Md. He also served as the Head Golf Professional at the Cliffside Country Club in Simsbury, Conn. and at Fair Oaks Golf Club in Fairfax, Va. Currently, Simpkins is the Director of Instruction at the Saucon Valley Country Club, which is the home course for the Mountain Hawks.
Simpkins and his wife Debbie reside in Bethlehem, Pa. They are the proud parents of one son, Seth.
