Bernadette Devaney enters her fourth season on the Lehigh women's basketball coaching staff and her third as an assistant coach in 2021-22. Previously, she served as the program's Director of Basketball Operations while pursuing a Master's degree in sociology.

With Devaney's guidance, Lehigh once again reached the mountaintop during the 2020-21 campaign, capturing the program's fourth Patriot League Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance, the first since 2010, with a 64-54 victory over Boston University. The victory followed the Mountain Hawks' third straight semifinal appearance, knocking off undefeated Bucknell on the road for the first time in nine tries. Lehigh dismantled fifth-seeded Holy Cross at Stabler Arena in the quarterfinal round, the team's third victory over the Crusaders on the season. Devaney helped the Mountain Hawks finish the year with a 10-6 overall record and 7-5 in Patriot League play en route to a No. 4 seed in the Patriot League. In an 89-71 win over American on January 11, the Mountain Hawks sank a new program record 16 3-pointers, also tying the Patriot League record in the process. Two players, Frannie Hottinger and Mary Clougherty, earned Second Team All-Patriot League selections while both also were named Academic All-Patriot League honorees. Freshman Mackenzie Kramer was a member of the Patriot League All-Rookie team, the program's first honoree since 2016.

Devaney graduated from Lehigh with a bachelor’s degree in management in May 2018. She appeared in 111 games over four seasons as a member of the Mountain Hawks from 2014-2018, averaging 4.5 points, 0.8 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game. As a senior in 2017-18, she averaged career-highs of 6.5 points, 1.3 assists, and 1.1 rebounds in 18.5 minutes per game. She ranked second on the team by shooting 37.8 percent from three-point range and 82.4 percent from the free throw line. She scored a career-high 20 points on two occasions, going 6-of-9 overall and 6-of-8 from three-point range vs. Mount St. Mary’s (11/29/17), and scored 20 again vs. Loyola (2/21/18) with a 7-of-10 shooting performance.

A native of Cooper City, Florida, Devaney helped lead Nova High School to a pair of state final four appearances, as well as two district and two regional titles. She scored 1,372 points, which ranked in the top three all-time at Nova. She was also a four-year member of the cross country team and ran track for two years, in addition to playing for the South Florida Lady Jags AAU program.
