Stephanie Covelle enters her seventh season as the pitching coach for the Lehigh softball team. The former Stephanie Howell, a 2002 Lehigh graduate, competed on Lehigh’s 2001 team which won a Patriot League title, and went on to qualify for the NCAA regional tournament in Oklahoma. That same year, Howell earned All-Region honors as well as the Patriot League Pitcher of the Year award. In her senior year, she was honored with the Lehigh Softball Coaches Award for her contributions to the team in terms of attitude, improvement and leadership. Also, Howell attained the ECAC Merit Scholar distinction. She went on to earn her Masters degree in Education, Secondary School Counseling from Lehigh in 2004.
In her tenure, Covelle coached Lehigh standouts Emily Ling ’05 and Lisa Sweeney ’09, the latter of who established new school and Patriot League records for wins and strikeouts. Sweeney became the first pitcher in league history to win four Pitcher of the Year awards, while re-writing the school and league record books in the process. This year’s pitching staff will be led by senior Tiffany Curtis and will also feature junior Briana Gaumer, sophomore Steffanie Guillermo and freshman Rebecca Bliss.
At practice, Covelle coordinates and executes all workouts for pitchers and catchers. In games, she is responsible for the calling and charting of pitches. She also assists in both on and off-campus recruiting.
Covelle and her husband Mark, a former administrative assistant for Lehigh softball, reside in Bethlehem.
