Michelle Prong enters her second season on the Lehigh softball coaching staff. She joined the Mountain Hawks in 2015 following an accomplished playing career that began at Stanford and concluded at Virginia Tech. Prong was a versatile performer on the field playing a variety of positions in the infield, outfield and behind the plate. She will assist with hitting and student-athlete recruitment among other duties with the Mountain Hawks.
Prong’s teams reached the NCAA Tournament in all four of her seasons, including a Super Regional appearance with Stanford in 2011.
In her senior season, Prong appeared in 56 games with 55 starts. She batted .271 with a career-high ten home runs and led the Hokies with six sacrifice bunts. Off the field, Prong was a Capital One Academic All-District selection and a member of both the All-ACC Academic Softball Team and the ACC Academic Honor Roll.
Prong appeared in 28 games with 20 starts in her first season in Blacksburg, batting .216 with a pair of home runs.
Prior to coming to Virginia Tech, Prong spent three years at Stanford. She was an honorable mention All-Pac-10 Freshman team member in 2011, making 45 starts at four different positions. Prong appeared in 23 games with 12 starts split behind the plate and in the outfield in 2012 before taking a redshirt season in 2013. She was a two-time NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete at Stanford.
A native of Victor, N.Y., Prong earned her Bachelor’s degree in human biology with a concentration in human performance from Stanford in January 2014. Prong added a Master of Public Health degree with a concentration in public health education from Virginia Tech in 2015.
