Dan Hunt enters his third season as Lehigh’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

In Lehigh’s 2024 Patriot League championship campaign, Hunt oversaw a Lehigh offense that featured a lot of youth at the skill positions but grew and produced as the season progressed. The Mountain Hawks boasted one of the nation’s top rushing attacks, averaging 201.9 yards per game on the ground. Six members of Lehigh’s offensive unit earned All-Patriot League honors, including first-team linemen George Padezanin and Langston Jones.

Under Hunt’s tutelage, quarterback Dante Perri provided leadership and a steadying hand in his fifth-year, starting Lehigh’s first nine games. First-year Hayden Johnson saw significant time in every game and started Lehigh’s final four games of the season. Johnson was named MVP of Lehigh’s league championship-clinching victory over Lafayette and was instrumental in the Mountain Hawks’ playoff win at Richmond. First-year Matt Machalik also saw significant option, primarily as a runner, and had a big day carrying the football in the Lafayette game.

Hunt is no stranger to Patriot League football, serving on the coaching staff at Colgate from 1995-2021, including seven seasons as the Raiders’ head coach.

Hunt spent the 2022 season as the offensive coordinator at Franklin & Marshall College, where the Diplomats ranked second in Division III in red zone offense, converting on nearly 93 percent of their red zone trips. Running back Aaron Rascoe set a program record with 14 rushing touchdowns, one that stood for 109 years.

Prior to his year at F&M, Hunt coached the running backs and tight ends at Williams College in their 2021 undefeated season.

Hunt spent 25 years at Colgate where he was on staff for all 10 of the Raiders’ Patriot League championships. He went 40-33 as head coach, winning Patriot League titles in 2015, 2017 and 2018 and leading the Raiders to FCS quarterfinal appearances in the 2015 and 2018 seasons. Hunt was recognized as the Dick Biddle Patriot League Coach of the Year and was a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Award following all three championship seasons as Colgate’s head coach.

In Hunt’s seven seasons as head coach he mentored 76 All-Patriot League selections while six players totaled 16 All-America accolades.

Prior to replacing his mentor, Dick Biddle, as head coach, Hunt served as Colgate’s offensive coordinator from 2006-2013 and was the Raiders’ associate head coach for the final three of those seasons. Colgate won Patriot League titles in 2008 and 2012 with the 2012 squad ranking in the top five nationally in scoring offense, total offense and rushing offense.

Hunt joined the Colgate staff in 1995 and worked with the tight ends and running backs before taking over the quarterbacks in 1997. He was on staff for Colgate’s 2003 NCAA runner-up squad as part of the FCS Coaching Staff of the Year.

A 1992 graduate of Springfield College, Hunt began his coaching career with three seasons at his alma mater. A three-year starter at tight end, Hunt earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education and later added a master’s in athletic administration in 1995.

Hunt and his wife Susanne have two children, Sean and Ryan.
