Lee Saverio will begin his fourth season as the hitting coach for the Mountain Hawks baseball program in 2016. Saverio brings a wealth of high school and collegiate coaching experience to the Mountain Hawks as well as a background in Major League Baseball as a scout for the New York Mets.
Â
Saverio helped lead Lehigh to its second-ever Patriot League title and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2015. The Mountain Hawks hit 39 home runs during the 2015 campaign, more than double the number of any other Patriot League team.
Â
Saverio guided Lehigh to a league-leading batting average in 2014 as the Mountain Hawks made their first Patriot League Championship appearance since 2006. Five Mountain Hawks earned All-Patriot League honors, including first team offensive weapons Justin Pacchioli and Mike Garzillo. Pacchioli secured the highest batting average in the Patriot League for the second-straight year with his mark of .362. In 2013, Saverio coached the team to a .271 batting average and a .369 on base percentage. Four Mountain Hawks garnered Second Team All-Patriot League laurels, including Pacchioli who had the highest batting average in the Patriot League with a mark of .366.
Â
Saverio spent time coaching at the collegiate and high school levels prior to joining Lehigh’s staff. He was the head coach at Cheltenham High School for 13 years and has served as the hitting coach and head coach at La Salle University. While at La Salle, Saverio was voted Coach of the Year and his team garnered Team of the Year honors in Philadelphia College Baseball. Saverio’s 2007 La Salle team won the prestigious Liberty Bell Classic at Citizens Bank Park and eight of Saverio’s former college players went on to sign professional baseball contracts. Saverio was also the 2008 interim head coach at St. Joseph’s University in which his Hawks won 18 games.
Â
In addition to his collegiate and high school coaching experience, Saverio was also the head coach of the Quakertown Blazers in the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League for two summers. His team made the playoffs in both seasons of his tenure.
