Mountain Hawks Compete Against Multiple Teams At Schuylkill River

PHILADELPHIA – Lehigh men's and women's rowing made a quick trip south to the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia for a day of races featuring both fours and eights. The men faced off against Bucknell and Fordham while the women raced against Drexel and George Washington.

The first race of the day was between Lehigh's men's first varsity eight against Bucknell, which the Mountain Hawks lost by a 9.2 second margin. The first race of the day for the women was between Lehigh's first varsity eight and GW's first varsity eight, which the Revolutionaries won 6:30 to 6:57.

In second varsity eight races, the men finished in second behind Bucknell 6:09.32 to 6:18.23. The women's second varsity eight were then narrowly defeated by GW 6:48.5 to 6:49.9. The men's third varsity eight finished behind Bucknell 6:37.79 to 7:07.13.

Next up, the women faced off against GW in first and second varsity four races. The first varsity four defeated GW 7:28.3 to 7:37.7 while GW's second varsity four beat Lehigh's 7:32.2 to 7:59.0.

After a brief break, races resumed for Lehigh with the men's first varsity eight taking on Fordham. The Mountain Hawks were victorious over the Rams 6:01.8 to 6:05.7. The women's first varsity eight returned to face Drexel, finishing behind the Dragons 6:46.22 to 7:03.77.

Lehigh's men's second varsity four faced off against freshman squads from Bucknell and Fordham, finishing in third with a time of 7:53.5. In a race against GW and two Bucknell boats, the men's first varsity eight finished in fourth with a time of 7:27.36. The women's first varsity four were then narrowly defeated by Drexel 7:33.71 to 7:36.16.

Lehigh's final race of the day was the second varsity four, who defeated GW's third varsity four 7:53.00 to 8:10.5.

The Mountain Hawks will be back in action at the Knecht Cup at the Cooper River in New Jersey on Saturday, April 11 and Sunday, April 12.
