Lehigh’s Win Streak Ends with Loss to Mount St. Mary’s

EMMITSBURG, Md. - Lehigh fell to Mount St. Mary's 20-12 on the road Wednesday, snapping its win streak as the Mountain Hawks were handed their first road loss of the season.
The Mount got off to a quick lead with three goals in the first three minutes. Goals from Nina DeNicola and Gracie Shoup brought Lehigh within one until a free position goal from Mountaineer Brooke Molchanoff stopped their run. Mount St. Mary's led 5-2 after one.
Molchanoff scored twice at the start of the second, bringing her team's lead to five. DeNicola found the back of the net again to end the momentum and get the Mountain Hawks on the board in the second. Two more goals in the next two minutes made it 9-3 in favor of the Mountaineers. Grace Martel scored to bring the deficit to five, but Molchanoff notched her sixth of the game late in the half. Molly Snow landed a goal with 12 seconds left in the half to go into the locker room down 11-5.
Martel got Lehigh off to a fast start coming out of the halftime break, scoring one minute into the third quarter. Mount St. Mary's responded, scoring three unanswered goals. Snow scored her second to end the run, bringing Lehigh's deficit to seven. DeNicola and Snow each netted their third goals of the game in the final five minutes of the period, but the Mountaineers went on a three goal stretch in between the two Lehigh goals to enter the fourth up 18-9.
Lehigh's first goal in the final period came with five minutes remaining in the game. Snow scored for a fourth time, sending a free position shot between the pipes. DeNicola got her fourth goal two minutes later, also coming on a free position shot. Ava Schulties netted a third free position goal with 39 seconds remaining in the game.
Shoup was Lehigh's assist leader, earning three. Brynn Freeman picked up three ground balls to pace all Mountain Hawks. Snow had two of her own, as well as two caused turnovers, the most for any Mountain Hawk. Mogan Lesiewicz had a game-high nine draw controls, which was also a new career high for the first-year.
Both goalies saw action today for Lehigh. Jane Hughes saved five shots against, while allowing 13 goals. Micaela Jennings saved one shot and allowed seven to pass through.
Molchanoff scored a career high nine goals, setting a Mount St. Mary's all-time single game scoring record. Peyton Sims picked up four goals of her own.
