TYSONS, Va. – Lehigh baseball played its second and final game of a weekend series against the George Mason Patriots on Sunday afternoon from Capital One Park in Tyson, Virginia. The Mountain Hawks fell by a score of 3-0.
The series between Lehigh (2-6) and George Mason (4-5) was originally set to be three games all played on George Mason's campus. However, due to field conditions, only two games at a neutral site were able to be completed all weekend.
George Mason starter Logan Rumberg earned the win after striking out six batters with four walks and no hits in 6.0 innings. Lehigh starter Cole Leaman was credited with the loss despite a solid stat line of six strikeouts, two walks, two hits, and only one earned run in 5.0 innings. Brant Ertel picked up the save for the Patriots.
The Mountain Hawks threatened in the first inning after two of the first three batters went on base via walks but ultimately were unable to score Leaman impressed through the first four innings, retiring the side 1-2-3 in the first, third, and fourth innings. A lone run came across the plate for George Mason in the second inning on a sac-bunt from Matthew Westley.
After Rumberg went 1-2-3 in the fourth and fifth innings, the Patriots threatened by loading the bases in the bottom of the fifth, but Leaman navigated the jam to keep George Mason off the board. The Patriots added two runs in the bottom of the sixth on a bunt from Vincent Cowdrey and sac-fly from Westley. The Mountain Hawks were unable to respond in the final innings.
Senior Shane O'Neill and sophomore Cole Kochanowicz also appeared on the mound for the Mountain Hawks in addition to Leaman.
The Mountain Hawks are next slated to face Muhlenberg in Allentown on Wednesday, March 4 at 3 p.m.
