Lehigh Falls to Fairfield in 2OT 14-13 in Season Opener

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh fell to Fairfield, 14-13, in double overtime Friday evening in the season opener. The Mountain Hawks also celebrated Senior Night as part of the contest.
Lehigh was led by first-year Finn Morgan and sophomore Luke Breslin on Friday night. Making his collegiate debut, Morgan scored a game-high six goals, with five coming in the second half. Breslin added a career-high six assists in the loss.
For the Stags, nine different players found the back of the net, led by Will Consoli with three goals.
Senior Richard Checo led the game with five caused turnovers and is now 10 caused turnovers shy of the Division I record.
The opening quarter was high scoring as Winkler opened the scoring for the Mountain Hawks. Fairfield responded by outscoring Lehigh 5-2 over the final 12 minutes of the period to take a 5-3 lead after one.
Fairfield controlled the second period, scoring four goals, including two in the final two minutes of the first half by Consoli. Sophomore Luke Breslin tallied his first goal of the season in the period as Lehigh trailed by five at halftime.
Fairfield also controlled the third quarter, the lowest-scoring period of the game, as just five goals were scored. The Stags netted three, while Lehigh added two, one from Winkler and one from Morgan.
Lehigh trailed 12-6 entering the fourth quarter when sophomore Peter Debusschere scored his first career goal with 11 minutes remaining, sparking a 7-0 run. Finn Morgan scored five of the next six goals to give the Mountain Hawks the lead with 3:15 left 13-12.
Devin Lampron tied the game for Fairfield with just over a minute remaining in regulation. In the first overtime, the teams traded stops before Lampron scored the game-winning goal with 1:51 left, giving the Stags a 1-0 start to the season and leaving Lehigh at 0-1.
