Richard Checo Breaks Division I Caused Turnover Record in Loss at No. 6 Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. - No. 6 Richmond defeated Lehigh 16‑7 Saturday afternoon, but Lehigh's Richard Checo made history in the loss by breaking the NCAA Division I career caused turnover record. Checo surpassed Lehigh's Craig Chick and now has 162 career caused turnovers, setting the new Division I mark.
With the loss, Lehigh falls to 2‑2 on the season. No. 6 Richmond improves to 4‑0 with the win. For the Mountain Hawks, Kasey Heath made 10 saves, while Connor Riley continued his strong play at the faceoff X, winning 13 of 23 draws.
The Spiders opened a 6‑1 lead after the first quarter, with Luke Winkler scoring the lone goal for the Mountain Hawks. In the second quarter, Richmond's Jack Riccardi added two of his four goals for the game, while his teammates contributed two more, giving the Spiders a 10‑1 lead at halftime.
Luke Winkler scored his second goal of the afternoon in the third quarter, giving the Mountain Hawks a boost. Winkler's two goals led Lehigh, which scored four times in the period. Richmond added five goals of its own to take a 15‑5 lead heading into the fourth.
Luke Breslin and Colin French each scored for Lehigh in the fourth quarter, helping the Mountain Hawks cut the final margin to nine.
