BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Temple defeated Lehigh 6-1 on Wednesday evening at the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center. With the win, the Owls improve to 3-4 on the season. The Mountain Hawks fall to 2-5 overall.
Lehigh head coach Sophia Geier said, "We faced the best team we've seen all season, and while the 1- 6 scoreline isn't what we wanted, I'm really proud of our attitude and the way the girls supported each other across every court. We were hanging in and competing point for point. A special credit to Maggie for a strong win at No. 1 singles against a top opponent, that fight is exactly what we're building on."
The match began with Temple taking the doubles point, fueled by wins on courts one and three.
In singles play, on court one, Maggie Forkner bounced back after dropping the first set, winning the second and taking the tiebreaker 10-4 against Irmak Ozturk of Temple, giving the Mountain Hawks a win on court one. Temple claimed the remaining singles matches, clinching the overall match 6-1.
