BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh's first-year wing Leia Edwards earns Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors for the fourth time this season, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
The Mountain Hawks opened Patriot League play last week with a 2-0 start, earning a road victory at Army before defeating Bucknell at home. In the two games, Edwards averaged 16 points and eight rebounds per contest.
Edwards previously won Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors three consecutive weeks, from Nov. 24 through Dec. 8, and is the first Mountain Hawk to win the award four times since Kerry Kinek won six in 2012-13.
After scoring 10 points in the win over Army on Wednesday, Edwards recorded her third double-double of the season by leading the team with 24 points and collecting 10 rebounds in a 74-43 victory over Bucknell on Saturday.
Edwards now leads the Mountain Hawks in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 14.1 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.
Lehigh enters the week set to face Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass., on Wednesday night, before hosting Colgate on Saturday at Stabler Arena.
In addition to Edwards claiming Patriot League Rookie of the Week, senior Lily Fandre received an honorable mention after scoring 18 points at Army West Point and 14 points against Bucknell. Fandre is just five career points away from becoming the 25th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points.
