BETHLEHEM, Pa. – No. 22 Lehigh rolled to a 32-7 win over American Sunday in the EIWA opener for both teams Sunday inside Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall. The Mountain Hawks won eight of the 10 bouts, including five bonus point wins, to cap a 2-0 weekend.
Just like Saturday's win over No. 20 Cornell, Sunday's match began at 133 with sophomore Ryan Crookham defeating Maximillian Leete 5-1 for his second ranked win of the weekend. Crookham scored a first period takedown plus a second period escape and riding time.
Sophomore Luke Stanich followed with a 20-3 technical fall over Jack Maida at 141. Stanich racked up four first period takedowns and locked up a cradle late in the second period for a takedown and four point near fall to wrap up the match at the 5:00 mark.
American picked up back-to-back victories at 149 and 157 to get within 8-7 after four bouts. Leo Maestas won a 12-4 major decision over junior Owen Reinsel at 149 and then Kaden Milheim scored the only takedown of the match in the third period to edge sophomore Griffin Gonzalez 4-1.
Senior Max Brignola started a 6-0 Lehigh run to close the dual with his second technical fall victory of the weekend. Brignola totaled seven takedowns, including six in the first period, to win 21-6 over Austin Craft in 3:55.
At 174, first-year Bekhruz Sadriddinov kicked off the second half of the dual meet with his first career dual win, a 9-1 major decision over Hunter Hohman. Sadriddinov scored a first period takedown and added four near fall late in the period to lead 7-0 after one.
Junior Rylan Rogers followed with a ranked win over Caleb Campos at 184. Rogers and Campos were tied 1-1 late in the third, with Rogers having 1:08 worth of advantage time. A takedown in the final seconds erased all doubt as Rogers claimed a 5-1 win.
Graduate student JT Davis followed Rogers with Lehigh's third technical fall of the day, a 17-1 win ove Teage Calvin at 197. Davis had four takedowns and a key four point near fall in the second period. The match ended with 1:19 remaining in the third.
Senior Nathan Taylor became the fifth Mountain Hawk to secure a 2-0 weekend with an 8-1 decision over Emmanuel Ulrich at 285. Taylor scored takedowns in the first and third periods.
Graduate student Sheldon Seymour also capped a 2-0 weekend with an 11-1 major decision over JJ Peace in the final bout.
Lehigh improves to 5-6 on the dual meet season, while American falls to 4-6.
