ZAGREB, Croatia – Lehigh wrestler Audrey Jimenez represented the Red, White and Blue along with the Brown and White Tuesday when she represented the United States at 50 kg at the UWW Senior World Championships.
Â
Jimenez dropped her opening round bout 6-3 to Italy's Emanuela Liuzzi and was eliminated from medal contention when Liuzzi was defeated in the quarterfinal round.
Â
Tuesday morning's bout saw Jimenez trail 1-0 at the break after conceding a step out point. Jimenez opened the second period by scoring a takedown off a low single leg shot to take a 2-1 lead. Later in the period, Jimenez was penalized with a caution-and-one, which tied the match a 2-2. Jimenez was put on the mat in par terre with Liuzzi scoring two points on a turn to take a 4-2 lead. Late in the period, Jimenez's attempt at a winning takedown was countered into a two point exposure for Liuzzi, with Jimenez eventually ending up on top to account for the 6-3 final.
Â
This was the second of three World Championship appearances for Jimenez this summer and fall. A five-time age group world medalist, Jimenez won a silver medal at the U20 World Championships last month in Samakov, Bulgaria. Jimenez is also slated to compete at the U23 World Championships, Oct. 20-27 in Novi Sad, Serbia.
