Mountain Hawks Secure Comeback over Colgate

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Down 3-0, the Lehigh women's tennis team mounted a thrilling 4-3 comeback victory over Colgate Saturday afternoon in Syracuse. With the win, the Mountain Hawks improved to 9-6 (2-3 PL), while the Raiders dropped to 10-10 (1-5 PL).
"What an incredible fight from our team today," said head coach Sophia Geier. " After dropping the doubles point and quickly going down 3-0, it would have been easy to fold, but these guys refused to quit. Every single player locked in, trusted their game and showed unbelievable heart to turn it around and take a 4-3 win. This one says a lot about our character."
Colgate took an early lead by winning two out of three doubles matches to secure the first point. Audrey Harrington and Hamsa Javagal fought hard but fell 7-6 in a tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles. Meanwhile, Ronit Khromchenko and Alina Shyani claimed a 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles.
The Raiders extended their lead to 3-0 by winning the first two singles matches. However, the Mountain Hawks stormed back, capturing the next four points to secure their second league victory of the season.
Giselle Vlassis put Lehigh on the board, earning a 6-3, 6-4 win over Eliza Podlas at No. 5 singles. Allyce Gaborik followed with a gritty performance, taking the first set 6-2, dropping the second 6-1, and then clinching her match with a dominant 6-0 victory in the third set.
Hamsa Javagal kept the momentum going, recovering from a 7-5 loss in the first set to win 6-3, 6-0 over Anya Kunar at No. 2 singles. Alina Shyani then secured the match for Lehigh, battling back from a 6-3 first-set loss to win 6-4, 6-3 in the final two sets against Addie Eklund.
Next up, Lehigh will host Army on Friday at 3 p.m. at the Ulrich Varsity Courts.
