
Mountain Hawks Drop Match at Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Lehigh women's tennis fell to Bucknell 5-2 on Friday morning in Lewisburg. With the loss, Lehigh dropped to 8-6 overall (1-4 PL), while the Bison improved to 9-8 (2-2 PL).
Lehigh started the match by losing the doubles point, with Bucknell sweeping all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. The Bison then won the first two singles points, extending their advantage to 3-0.
Giselle Vlassis gave Lehigh its first point of the day, winning 6-1, 7-5 at the No. 5 singles spot over Jayce Mair to pull Lehigh within 3-1. However, Maggie Forkner's narrow 7-6 tiebreaker loss in her singles match sealed the victory for Bucknell.
First-year Alina Shyani continued her strong performance after earning a Patriot League Honorable Mention on April 1. Shyani won her match in three sets over Anna Lajos, taking the first set 7-6, dropping the second 6-4, but bouncing back to win 6-0 in the decisive third set.
Hamsa Javagal also played a hard-fought three-set match. Javagal won the first set 6-4 but was edged out in the final two sets, losing 7-6, 7-5.
Next up, Lehigh will travel to Colgate for a match on Sunday at 4 p.m.
