Lehigh Bested By NJIT 4-1 In Non-League Finale

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men's tennis played its final non-league match of the season on Wednesday afternoon, welcoming the NJIT Highlanders to the Ulrich Varsity Tennis Courts. The Mountain Hawks and Highlanders played to the clinch, resulting in a 4-1 win for NJIT.
NJIT (14-3) opened doubles play with a 6-2 win at number three over Rafael Gracie and Jackson Morash. The Highlanders then claimed victory over Lehigh (8-8) at number one by a score of 6-4 to pick up the doubles point. Luke Donovan and Jose Murariu's match at number two was left unfinished with the score tied 5-5.
The bottom two singles matches were the first to finish, as NJIT's Wil Jenkins and Tom Sorin earned two-set victories at numbers five and six respectively. Marc Blekhman kept the Mountain Hawks alive with a two-set win at number two to make the score 3-1. The Highlanders clinched the dual meet victory with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 win from Soma Fukuhara at number four. Both Murariu and Benedict Horn-Bourque were in the third set of their matches at one and three, but both were left unfinished following the clinch.
The Mountain Hawks return to Patriot League play on Saturday, April 5 at 10 a.m. against the Army West Point Black Knights. Lehigh will honor Blekhman and Donovan for Senior Day prior to the start of the match.
