Dow Dominates in 13-8 Victory Over No. 18 Navy

3/7/2025 8:06:00 PM | Men's Lacrosse

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Lehigh men's lacrosse secured a 13-8 victory over No. 18 Navy in their Patriot League opener on Friday night at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The Mountain Hawks improved to 2-4 (1-0 PL), while Navy fell to 4-2 (1-1 PL).

"I was very proud of our effort today," said head coach Will Scudder. "I thought it was a complete team performance. Obviously, Sean had a huge indviudal performance, and we rode that. I thought we controlled the pace of the game through winninf faceoffs and riding Navy back."

Senior faceoff specialist Sean Dow played a pivotal role in the win, winning 22 of 24 faceoffs and collecting 14 ground balls. Dow handled all of Lehigh's faceoff duties on Friday, limiting Navy to just two faceoff victories. The Mountain Hawks dominated in shots (51-31) and ground balls (38-11) throughout the game.

Navy struck first, scoring five minutes into the contest, but Lehigh quickly seized control with a 6-0 run. Sophomore midfielder Jack Archer gave the Mountain Hawks their first lead with 2:13 remaining in the opening quarter, and Lehigh maintained that lead for the rest of the game.

Senior midfielder Dakota Eierman set a career high with five goals, while junior midfielder Peter Theodoropoulos registered a career-high of two goals and three assists. First-year attackman Luke Breslin added three goals, and senior attackman Andrew Kelly (1G, 1A) and first-year attackman Chris Rathwell (1G, 1A) also contributed multiple points.

"I thought this was the most impressive offensive performance we have had to date," Scudder said. "Our guys are starting to gel and gaining invaluable experience. We moved Peter Theodoropoulos back to offense a couple of weeks ago, and he has given us a huge spark. I am excited to move on to Army."

Eierman extended Lehigh's lead to 9-2 with 3:34 left in the first half, marking the Mountain Hawks' largest lead of the game. Navy's Jack Ponzio scored with 11 seconds remaining in the half to make it 9-3 at the break.

Theodoropoulos opened the second half with a goal three minutes into the third quarter, pushing Lehigh's lead back to seven. Although Navy outscored the Mountain Hawks 5-4 in the second half, Lehigh's early advantage proved insurmountable as they secured their second straight victory.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kasey Heath recorded a game-high 10 saves, posting a 55.6% save percentage. Heath has now tallied double-digit saves in six consecutive games. Navy's Dan Daly made nine saves in the loss.

Junior defender Richard Checo led Lehigh's defensive efforts, recording both of the team's caused turnovers and adding four ground balls.

Navy's Ponzio was the standout for the Midshipmen, finishing with six points (5G, 1A).

Lehigh will next host Army on March 15 at 12 p.m. at the Ulrich Sports Complex.
