Lehigh Falls to Colgate in Regular Season Finale

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Lehigh women's basketball suffered a 78-59 loss to Colgate on Wednesday night at Cotterell Court in the regular-season finale. The Mountain Hawks dropped to 24-6 (15-3 PL), while the Raiders improved to 23-8 (13-5 PL).

Lehigh shot 50% in the first quarter and took a 19-16 lead into the second period. The Mountain Hawks led by as many as six points with 4:30 to play in the opening frame, which would be their largest lead of the night.

Colgate tied the game at 19 just 11 seconds into the second quarter when Taylor Golembiewski drained a three-pointer. The teams would trade leads multiple times throughout the second quarter. Golembiewski gave Colgate a 25-24 lead with 6:33 left in the first half, and the Raiders would hold onto their advantage for the rest of the game.

Fifth-year senior wing Maddie Albrecht led Lehigh with a team-high 14 points, while sophomore forward Whitney Lind added 13 points of her own to join Albrecht in double figures.

The Raiders led 33-29 at halftime and continued to dominate in the second half. Colgate stretched its lead to as many as 12 points in the third quarter, while Lehigh cut the deficit to nine by the end of the period, thanks to a last-second layup by senior guard Colleen McQuillen.

In the fourth quarter, Colgate outscored Lehigh 24-14 to secure the victory. The Mountain Hawks struggled to keep up with the Raiders throughout the game. Morgan McMahon led all scorers with 22 points, while Golembiewski (20 points) and Anne Bair (13 points) also finished in double figures for Colgate.

Rebounding proved to be a key factor, with Colgate holding a commanding 41-22 advantage on the boards, including a 16-5 edge in offensive rebounds. Lehigh shot 21-of-51 (41.2%) from the field and 6-of-22 (27.3%) from beyond the arc. Colgate shot 26-of-57 (45.6%) from the field and 5-of-15 (33.3%) from distance.

The Mountain Hawks recorded 13 assists on their 21 made field goals. McQuillen led Lehigh with five assists. Junior forward Lily Fandre finished with four assists and seven points.

Next up, No. 1  Lehigh will face the winner of the first round game between No. 8 Boston University and No. 9 Loyola in the Patriot League Quarterfinals at 6 p.m. on Monday at Stabler Arena. Tickets can be purchased here.
