Lehigh Drops League Match to Boston University

RANDALLS ISLAND, N.Y. – Lehigh women's tennis fell to Boston University, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon at Randalls Island. The Mountain Hawks dropped to 7-5 overall (0-2 PL), while the Terriers improved to 6-7 (3-0 PL).
"Tough 5-2 loss today," said head coach Sophia Geier. "We competed hard, especially in singles, and it was great to see us pull out two solid wins there. Unfortunately, dropping too many first sets put us in a hole we couldn't climb out of, especially against a team like BU."
Boston University started strong by securing the doubles point, winning two of the three doubles matches. Allyce Gaborik and Maggie Forkner were defeated 6-1 at the No. 1 doubles spot, and Ronit Khromchenko and Alina Shyani fell 6-3. Audrey Harrington and Hamsa Javagal trailed 5-3 before the Terriers clinched the doubles point.
In singles play, Boston University took control by winning the first four singles matches, securing the victory. Giselle Vlasiss lost 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4 singles, Khromchenko dropped a 6-2, 6-3 match at No. 5, and Gaborik suffered a 6-2, 6-1 defeat at No. 6 singles, which clinched the win for Boston University. Javagal also fell 6-3 in both sets to Uma Bakaiyte.
Shyani earned the Mountain Hawks' first point of the day with a hard-fought victory over Madison Liu at No. 3 singles. After winning the first set 6-1 and losing the second set 6-3, Shyani held on for a 10-6 win in the final set.
Forkner secured her second consecutive league singles win, also in three sets. Forkner won the first set 7-5 against Gabriella Mikaul, dropped the second 6-3, and came back to win 10-7 in the third set.
Next up, Lehigh will host Loyola, March 30 at 1 p.m.
