Lehigh Drops Midweek Game To Penn

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh baseball returned to J. David Walker Field on Wednesday afternoon for a midweek clash with the University of Pennsylvania Quakers. The Mountain Hawks fell to the Quakers 19-2 in seven innings.

Penn (5-9) starter Aidan von Zuben was credited with the win after striking out three while allowing one run in 2.0 innings. Lehigh (10-7) starter Grady Golier picked up his first loss of the season after conceding two runs in the top of the second inning.

The Mountain Hawks put the first run of the game on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Raffaele Rogers walked and Aidan Quinn got aboard on a hit by pitch, allowing Owen Walewander to single Rogers home. The Quakers responded in the following half inning, taking a 2-1 lead on a Jarrett Pokrovsky solo home run and Michael Powell RBI groundout.

In the top of the third, Davis Baker extended Penn's lead to two on an RBI single to right center. Jake Whitlinger responded with a solo home run in the bottom of the third, his fourth of the season. From there, the Penn offense began to take center stage. The Quakers scored four runs in the fourth, five in the fifth, four in the sixth and three in the seventh all while holding the Mountain Hawks scoreless.

Whitlinger, Walewander and Ryan Davis recorded hits for the Mountain Hawks.

The Mountain Hawks will open Patriot League play at home on Saturday, March 22 for a doubleheader against the Holy Cross Crusaders. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. from Walker Field.
