Mountain Hawks Suffer Loss to Penn

PHILADELPHIA – Lehigh women's tennis had its four-match winning streak snapped with a 7-0 loss to Penn on Friday morning. The Mountain Hawks dropped to 4-2, while the Quakers improved to 5-5.
"Our match against Penn was a tough one, and while the final score was decisive, there were definitely some competitive battles out there," said head coach Sophia Geier. "Our team fought hard on every court, and we walked away with valuable lessons that will help us moving forward. It was great to see that level of play, and I'm proud of the effort we put in."
Penn dominated doubles play, winning two of the three matches to secure the first point. Allyce Gaborik and Maggie Forkner fell 6-2 at No. 1 doubles, while Hamsa Javagal and Shyani lost 6-0 at No. 2. Hannah Letzer and Giselle Vlassis were trailing 4-2 when the doubles point was clinched.
In singles action, Penn's Eileen Wang secured the first point, defeating Alina Shyani 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Javagal suffered a 6-2, 6-1 loss to Gavriella Smith at No. 3. Penn clinched the overall victory as Sarah Wang bested Lezter 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5.
Despite the loss, Lehigh continued to compete in the remaining matches. At No. 4 singles, Vlassis fell 6-0, 6-3 to Elizabeth Tkahenko. Forkner was defeated 6-2, 6-4 by Esha Velaga at No. 1, and Gaborik lost 7-5, 6-3 to Maya Urata at No. 6.
Next, Lehigh women's tennis returns home on Sunday to face LIU at 11 a.m.
