Lehigh Hits the Road For Friday Battle at Villanova

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men's lacrosse is set to make the short trip to Villanova for a matchup on Friday at 4 p.m. at Villanova Stadium. The Mountain Hawks enter the game with an 0-4 record, while the Wildcats stand at 1-2. The game will be streamed live on FloSports.

Lehigh is coming off a narrow 9-8 defeat to No. 12/13 Richmond on Feb. 22. The Spiders outscored the Mountain Hawks 2-1 in the final frame after the game was tied 7-7 heading into the fourth quarter.
A quartet of Mountain Hawks finished with two points each in the loss. First-year attackman Luke Breslin (1G, 1A), junior midfielder Grant Rodny (1G, 1A), sophomore attackman Luke Winkler (1G, 1A), and first-year midfielder Charlie Sherman (1G, 1A) all played key roles offensively.

Senior faceoff specialist Sean Dow had a standout performance, securing a season-high 15 faceoff wins on 20 attempts. Dow currently holds a 52% success rate at the stripe, winning 37-of-71 attempts so far this season.

On the offensive front, senior midfielder Dakota Eierman (7G, 1A) and Breslin (4G, 4A) lead the Mountain Hawks with eight points each through four games. Senior attackman Andrew Kelly (5G, 1A) and Rodny (4G, 2A) are next, with six points each.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kasey Heath has been impressive between the pipes, amassing 63 saves and boasting a 57.3% save percentage. Heath has recorded double-digit saves in all four of his collegiate starts and ranks third in the NCAA with 15.75 saves per game.

Villanova is coming off a tough 16-5 loss to Colgate on Feb. 22, where the Raiders went on a 12-0 run to seal the win. Matt Licata led the Wildcats in the loss with a team-high two points (1G, 1A). Licata has been a key player for Villanova, leading the team with seven points across three games (6G, 1A).

In goal, Anthony Wilson has made 18 saves with a 33% save percentage, while Denis Fargione has tallied 12 saves with a 66.7% save percentage.

At the faceoff "X," Villanova's Tyler Sandoval has been solid, winning 34-of-54 attempts.

This marks the second consecutive season that Lehigh and Villanova will face off. Last year, the Wildcats defeated the Mountain Hawks 14-8, opening the game with a 5-2 run and maintaining control throughout.

Lehigh holds a 14-20 all-time record against Villanova, with the most recent victory coming in 2014 when the Mountain Hawks won 7-6 in three overtimes.

Looking ahead, Lehigh will host Navy on March 7 at 5 p.m. for the Patriot League opener in Annapolis, Md.
