BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh women's tennis extended its winning streak to four, sweeping Saint Joseph's 7-0 on Saturday morning at the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center. The Mountain Hawks improved to 4-1, while the Hawks fell to 1-7.
"I'm happy with today's result," said head coach Sophia Geier. "Although the 7-0 scoreline looks dominant, every match was competitive, and our players had to step up in crucial moments. What stood out the most was the clarity of our strategy. We stuck to our game plan, made high-percentage decisions, and executed well under pressure. Even in tight situations, we remained disciplined and committed to playing the right way. This was a great step forward for us, and we'll use it as a building block as we continue to improve."
Lehigh got off to a strong start by winning the doubles point. Roni Khromchenko and Bella Peters secured a 6-3 victory over Brooke Tackett and Charlotte Kordonowy, clinching the first doubles win.
Maggie Forkner and Allyce Gaborik fell 6-4 to Victoria Tacey and Wiktoria Zerny in the No. 1 doubles spot. However, senior Hamsa Javagal and first-year Alina Shyani secured the doubles point with a 7-5 win over Addison Melfi and Gisele Tang in the No. 2 spot.
Javagal quickly won the first singles point for Lehigh, defeating Victoria Tracey 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Giselle Vlasiss followed shortly after, posting a 6-1, 6-3 victory against Kordonowy at the No. 4 spot.
Forkner clinched the overall victory for Lehigh with a dominant 6-3, 6-0 win over Wiktoria Czerny at the No. 1 spot. The Mountain Hawks didn't stop there—Shyani added another point, defeating Addison Melfi 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 singles just minutes later.
Khromchenko capped off the singles wins with a 6-3, 6-3 result against Ana Ocasio at No. 6.
Allyce Gaborik, after losing the first set 6-2 at No. 5 singles to Gisele Tang, fought back in an exciting contest. Gaborik won the final two sets 6-4, 12-10, completing the sweep for the Mountain Hawks.
