BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Keith Higgins Jr., Ben Knostman and Tyler Whitney-Sidney were all honored pregame Saturday when Lehigh men's basketball hosted Holy Cross on Senior Day, presented by Rich Mar Florist. The Mountain Hawks earned a 72-60 victory over the Crusaders to sweep the season series.
Lehigh (10-15, 5-9 PL) earns the season sweep over Holy Cross (12-15, 4-10 PL) after the Mountain Hawks picked up a 69-67 win over the Crusaders in Worcester earlier this month. The win places Lehigh in a tie for seventh place in the Patriot League while Holy Cross sits alone in tenth place.
Holy Cross took a quick 5-0 advantage in the first minute of the game, eventually extending that lead to 10-4. Sophomore Joshua Ingram scored seven of Lehigh's first nine points to help the Mountain Hawks pull to within one possession. Sophomore guard Nasir Whitlock then began to heat up, going 4-5 from the field over a four-minute stretch to give the Mountain Hawks their first lead of the game at 19-17 with 6:55 remaining in the half. DeAndre Williams put the Crusaders back in front by two with 3:20 to go, but back-to-back buckets from first-year Hank Alvey and Ingram put Lehigh back front 26-25 at the half.
Whitney-Sidney opened the second half with his first triple of the game followed by a driving layup to put his team ahead 31-26. Back-to-back triples from Holy Cross' Jaiden Feroah gave the Crusaders a 32-31 lead, but Knostman and Whitney-Sidney responded with consecutive threes of their own to give Lehigh a lead they wouldn't relinquish for the rest of the game. From there, Lehigh's offense began to heat up. The Mountain Hawks shot 8-10 from the floor over the next five minutes of gameplay to take a 55-37 lead with under ten remaining, their largest of the afternoon. The Crusaders made a late push, uncorking a 14-1 run of their own to pull within five with under five minutes left in the game. However, Lehigh hit shots and knocked down free throws when they needed to, securing the 12-point victory.
Lehigh shot 46.7% (28-60) from the floor and 43.8% (7-16) from three while Holy Cross posted percentages of 42.0% (21-50) and 37.0% (10-27). The Mountain Hawks outrebounded the Crusaders 32-26 and found an advantage at the free throw line 75.0% (9-12) to 57.1% (8-14). Lehigh is now 7-0 on the season when they outrebound their opponent.
Leading the charge was Whitney-Sidney, who posted a game-high 18 points with three made triples. The senior from Somerville, Massachusetts surpassed Kahron Ross on Lehigh's all-time scoring list to move into sole possession of 16th.
Whitlock tallied 15 points to go along with three rebounds and three assists. Ingram was the third Mountain Hawk in double-figures, scoring 11 points with six rebounds, two steals and an assist. First-year Alfredo Addesa scored seven points while grabbing a career-high seven rebounds.
Kahlil Singleton led the Crusaders offensively with 13 points. Feroah (12p), Aidan Richard (12p) and Max Green (10p) joined Singleton in double-figures for Holy Cross.
The Mountain Hawks have a quick turnaround, as the team heads west to face Bucknell on Monday, February 17. The game tips off at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network.
