BETHLEHEM, Pa. – An NCAA-leading eighth 30+ point performance from junior captain Nasir Whitlock helped pave the way for Lehigh men's basketball to defeat the Bucknell Bison 89-79 on Senior Day. In addition, the Mountain Hawks clinched the number two seed in the Patriot League tournament with Colgate's loss at Navy on Saturday evening.

Seniors Henri Adiassa, Tommy Conniff, Bube Momah, and Brendan Reed were honored before the game in addition to a pregame recognition for Murray H. Goodman '48 head coach Brett Reed's 300th win. Lehigh (15-16, 11-7 PL) has sealed up a home Patriot League championship quarterfinal game next Thursday while Bucknell (9-22, 6-12 PL) will play in Tuesday's first round.
Edouard Benoit had a fast start for Lehigh, knocking down his first two three-point attempts. The Bison responded with a 9-0 run that gave them a 14-9 advantage before the Mountain Hawks cut the lead to two at the under 12 media timeout. Lehigh scored seven unanswered out of the break and conducted a 13-2 run to take a seven-point lead with 8:43 to go in the half.
The Mountain Hawks stayed hot down the stretch of the opening stanza, shooting 57.7% from the field and 56.3% from three in the first half. Despite Lehigh's hot shooting, the Bison kept pace thanks to some efficient three-point shooting of their own. Lehigh finally managed to create some separation in the final two minutes of the half, as a 7-2 run gave the Mountain Hawks a 47-40 halftime lead.
Bucknell opened the second half on a 7-2 run to cut Lehigh's lead to two, but a Nasir Whitlock triple and Jalen Vazquez layup built the advantage back up to seven. The Bison brought themselves within three once again before the Mountain Hawks went back up by seven. A Whitlock putback layup gave Lehigh a five-point advantage with just over ten minutes to play.
Leading by three, back-to-back triples from Andrew Urosevic and Whitlock propelled Lehigh to a nine-point advantage at 66-57. Led by first-year Amon Dörries, the Bison managed to trim their deficit to two with 7:09 on the clock. Buckets from Joshua Ingram, Whitlock, and Hank Alvey allowed the Mountain Hawks to go back up by eight. Late buckets from Whitlock and excellent free throw shooting down the stretch put a bow on Lehigh's 11th Patriot League win.
Lehigh was extremely efficient offensively, shooting 58.8% (30-51) from the field, 52.4% (11-21) from three, and 94.7% (18-19) from the free throw line. Bucknell posted shooting splits of 50.8% (32-63) from the floor, 42.9% (9-21) from distance, and 75.0% (6-8) from the line. The Mountain Hawks outrebounded the Bison 29-24 and assisted on a staggering 80% of their field goals.
Whitlock was fantastic once again, pouring in 32 points on 12-18 shooting with seven assists and three rebounds. The junior guard stands alone in Division-I basketball with eight 30+ point games this season.
Alvey had a big game for the Mountain Hawks as well, tallying 22 points on 8-12 shooting with five rebounds, four assists, a block, and a steal. Ingram nearly secured a triple-double with 11 points, eight rebounds, eight assists, two blocks, and two steals.
Benoit finished the game with eight points, four rebounds, and an assist. Vazquez added seven points, three rebounds, and three assists while Urosevic scored six points off the bench.
Dörries led the way for the Bison with 28 points while Pat Curtin finished the night with 22 points. Achile Spadone (13p) and Aleksander Pachucki (11p) also reached double-figures for Bucknell.
No. 2 Lehigh will host a Patriot League Quarterfinal game against the winner of No. 7 Lafayette vs. No. 10 Holy Cross on Thursday, March 5 at 7 p.m. at Stabler Arena. Tickets can be purchased HERE.
