12/7/2025 3:17:00 PM | Men's Wrestling
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Seniors Carter Bailey (141) and Nathan Taylor (285) won decisions for No. 14 Lehigh, but top-ranked and four-time defending NCAA champion Penn State captured the other eight bouts to claim the 113th meeting of Lehigh's most-contested dual series 36-6 Sunday at Rec Hall.
Â
Penn State scored bonus points in six of its eight wins to improve to 3-0 on the dual season. The Mountain Hawks fall to 3-4 with the loss.
Â
Bailey put Lehigh on the board at 141 with a 5-1 decision over Cael Nasdeo. He picked up a first period takedown, a third period escape and riding time advantage.
Â
Taylor closed the match with his second ranked win of his opening weekend of competition, defeating Cole Mirasola 7-2 in the final bout at 285. Mirasola led 1-0 late in the second, when Taylor turned a Mirasola shot into a late takedown to lead. Taylor escaped early in the third and turned another Mirasola shot into a takedown to win 7-2.
Â
Penn State opened the dual with back-to-back technical falls at 125 and 133. Lehigh was without graduate student Sheldon Seymour at 125 so sophomore Logan Wadle stepped in against No. 2 Luke Lilledahl. First-year Mason Ziegler fell 19-4 against Marcus Blaze at 133.
Â
A 19-5 major decision by No. 1 Shayne Van Ness over junior Owen Reinsel at 149 put Penn State up 14-3 and a win by injury default by PJ Duke over sophomore Logan Rozynski put the Nittany Lions up 20-3 at intermission. Duke was up 14-5 in the third period when he tried to turn Rozynski. Action was stopped for potentially dangerous but after an injury timeout, Rozynski was unable to continue.
Â
Coming out of the break, Penn State got a 15-7 major decision from returning NCAA champion Mitchell Mesenbrink over senior Max Brignola at 165 and a fall in 2:15 by No. 1 Levi Haines over first-year Bekhruz Sadriddinov at 174.
Â
At 184, junior Rylan Rogers dropped a tight 4-2 match to No. 4 Rocco Welsh, with Welsh scoring the only takedown of the bout late in the third period.
Â
Connor Mirasola picked up the Nittany Lions' eighth win, 8-3 over junior Remy Brancato-Roed at 197.
Â
Lehigh had five takedowns in the dual with Reinsel and Brignola securing takedowns in losing efforts along with Bailey's and the two from Taylor. Penn State had 26 takedowns.
Â
Penn State has won the last 15 duals in the series to take a 76-34-3 lead. The Nittany Lions have won 12 NCAA titles during that span.
Â
The Mountain Hawks will now break for final exams and will return to action at the Collegiate Wrestling Duals in Nashville, Tenn., on Sunday, Dec. 21. Lehigh will face Illinois (4 p.m. ET) and Iowa State (6 p.m. ET) in Nashville.
