Bonus Points Push No. 20 Pitt Past No. 14 Mountain Hawks in Home Opener

12/5/2025 10:04:00 PM | Men's Wrestling

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – No. 14 Lehigh's home opener against No. 20 Pitt came down to the final bout, with the Panthers' Kade Brown securing a fall from neutral against junior Owen Reinsel to give the visiting Panthers a 21-15 victory over the Mountain Hawks Friday night inside Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall.

The teams split matches 5-5 but the Panthers' three bonus point victories provided the decisive margin.

Lehigh was held to regular decisions in all five of its victories. The effort was highlighted by the return of heavyweight Nathan Taylor, who competed for the first time in 13 months and won a 5-4 decision over Dayton Pitzer in a matchup of ranked wrestlers.

The dual began at 157 with sophomore Logan Rozynski winning a 7-3 decision over Vince Bouzakis behind a takedown in each of the first two periods. Senior Max Brignola followed with a decision over Jared Keslar by the same 7-3, again with takedowns in each of the first two periods.

Pittsburgh (4-1) picked up its first win at 174 as Luca Augustine broke open a close match with a big third period in a 20-5 technical fall over first-year Bekhruz Sadriddinov, who was making his dual debut.

Junior Rylan Rogers won 3-0 over Chase Kranitz at 184 behind a second period escape, a third period rideout and a stalling point.

Pitt's fifth-ranked Mac Stout won an 11-3 major decision over junior Remy Brancato-Roed at 197 to tie the dual at 9-9 at the midway point.

Coming out of the break, Taylor faced off against Pitzer, who had claimed the two previous meetings in the series. Taylor scored a takedown late in the first period to lead 3-0 and added a second period escape to go up 4-0 after two. Pitzer escaped to begin the third and after a lengthy scramble secured a takedown to tie the match at 4-4. With Taylor fighting for an escape in the final seconds, Pitzer was called for locked hands and the penalty point gave Taylor the 5-4 decision.

Graduate student Sheldon Seymour put Lehigh up 15-9 after seven with a 9-3 decision over Tyler Chappell.

Evan Tallmadge's 9-5 decision over first-year Mason Ziegler brought Pitt within 15-12 with two bouts remaining.

Lehigh had two chances to pick up a potential dual clinching sixth match victory. At 141 Carter Bailey lost a tough-luck 4-1 sudden victory decision to Briar Priest. Bailey was unable to escape before losing his riding time advantage and Priest secured the winning takedown on the edge.

In the final bout of the night, Reinsel tried to throw Brown to his back in a scoreless match but ended up caught on his own back, with the fall secured at 1:08 giving the Panthers the victory.

The Mountain Hawks (3-3) will travel to University Park, Pa. to face No. 1 Penn State Sunday at 1 p.m. The match will be streamed on Big Ten Plus, with audio coverage on FOX Sports Radio 94.7 FM and 1230 AM and LVFOXSports.com.

The 2025-26 Lehigh wrestling season is presented by the Historic Hotel Bethlehem.
