BETHLEHEM, Pa. – No. 8 Lehigh opened the dual meet season Saturday by defeating a pair of ACC opponents at Journeymen WrangleMania, held at Liberty High School. The Mountain Hawks opened the day with a dominant 38-7 victory over Duke, with Lehigh claiming bonus points in all eight of its match wins. Lehigh's second dual of the day was a back-and-forth affair against Virginia, with wins from junior Rylan Rogers at 184 and graduate student JT Davis at 197 carrying the Mountain Hawks to a 21-17 victory.

Rogers and Davis both went 2-0 on the day along with graduate student Sheldon Seymour (125) and senior Max Brignola (165). Sophomore Logan Wadle and first-year Mason Ziegler both bumped up to 133 and picked up their first career dual meet victories.

Lehigh won the first six bouts against Duke, taking a 23-0 lead in the process. Seymour started things off with a second period pin of Riley Rowen. Wadle followed with a major decision over John King, by a 12-4 score.

Back-to-back major decision wins from senior Carter Bailey and junior Owen Reinsel at 141 and 149, respectively were followed by consecutive technical fall victories for Rozynski and Brignola.

Duke picked up its first win at 174 as Aidan Wallace scored a takedown in sudden victory to edge first-year Dom Federici  4-1.

Rogers received a forfeit at 184 and then Davis defeated Owen McGrory 13-3 for the first of his two major decisions on the day.

The Blue Devils claimed the final bout with Connor Barket posting a major decision victory over first-year heavyweight Calvin Lachman.

The Virginia dual started with back-to-back wins for Seymour and Ziegler. Seymour beat nationally-ranked Keyveon Roller 9-2 and then Ziegler followed with a 13-4 major over Aiden Allen.

The Cavaliers took the next three bouts, including a major decision at 149 to grab a 10-7 lead at the midway point.

Brignola won a 21-6 technical fall over Michael Murphy to put Lehigh back in front 12-10, but a major decision by nationally-ranked Nick Hamilton over Federici put Virginia up 14-12 with three bouts remaining.

Lehigh reclaimed the lead behind Rogers, who secured a 19-4 technical fall over Jack Lesher in 6:12, and then clinched the dual when Davis won a 13-5 major decision over Max Shulaw. Davis gave up the first takedown but reversed late and trailed 3-2 after one period. Davis took the lead with a second period takedown and added two more in the third plus riding time, to put Lehigh up by seven heading into the final bout.

Virginia's Brenan Morgan closed the dual with a 4-2 decision over Lachman on the strength of a second period takedown.

Lehigh will be back on the mats on Sunday with a contingent of wrestlers heading to nearby Freedom High School for the Journeymen Collegiate Classic. Action begins at 9 a.m. with coverage on FloWrestling.org.
