Lehigh Falls To Binghamton 80-71 In Overtime

12/2/2025 9:44:00 PM | Men's Basketball

VESTAL, N.Y. – Lehigh men's basketball played its fourth consecutive contest away from Stabler Arena on Tuesday evening, traveling north to take on the Binghamton Bearcats. After the tip-off was delayed an hour due to a travel issue, the Mountain Hawks fell 80-71 in overtime.

"Binghamton did a really good job with their two big athletes to neutralize penetration towards the rim," said Murray H. Goodman '48 head coach Brett Reed. "With [Hank Alvey] fouled out in overtime and everybody clogging the paint, it gave us opportunities to take open shots, but we just didn't knock them down."

Tuesday night's game was the first-ever meeting between Lehigh (3-7) and Binghamton (3-6). It was the second straight overtime game for the Mountain Hawks, as Lehigh was coming off a 78-74 overtime win over Texas State in the Resorts World Las Vegas Classic consolation game.

Joshua Ingram got things going early for the Mountain Hawks, hitting two threes on Lehigh's first two possessions. Another Ingram layup on the fast break put Lehigh ahead 12-5 at the 16:06 mark, prompting a Binghamton timeout. The Bearcats responded out of the break with a 9-2 run over the next four minutes to tie the game 14-14.

Ingram stayed hot for the Mountain Hawks in the latter half of the frame, putting Lehigh back on top with another triple and an emphatic one-hand jam. The Bearcats found production at the free throw line, shooting 8-12 from the charity stripe as opposed to Lehigh's zero attempts in the first half. The two teams entered the locker room knotted up at 38 apiece after a half that saw six lead changes.

Binghamton opened the second half on a strong note, outscoring Lehigh 7-0 through the first three minutes. Ingram helped bring the Mountain Hawks back within two after converting an and-one layup with 12:24 to play. After a Nasir Whitlock layup evened the score at 48-48, the Bearcats staved off the Mountain Hawks to hold a 56-50 lead with 7:33 remaining. Lehigh then stormed back, tying the game on an Ingram reverse layup with 5:37 to play.

Two Zyier Beverly buckets propelled the Bearcats in front 62-58 before a Whitlock triple cut the lead to one with 2:33 to go. After two more Beverly free throws, Ingram knocked down a step-back three that brought Lehigh within one. The Mountain Hawks then got a stop on the other end, allowing Whitlock to drill a three to give Lehigh the lead with 13 seconds remaining.

On the final possession of regulation, Binghamton's Jeremiah Quigley drew a foul on Hank Alvey, which fouled the big man out of the game. Quigley then went 1-2 from the free throw line to send the game to overtime.

Binghamton took a three-point lead to begin overtime before two Whitlock free throws cut the lead to one. Quigley got back to the line for the Bearcats on consecutive possessions, giving Binghamton a 74-69 lead with 1:15 to go. The Mountain Hawks were unable to respond offensively in the overtime period, and the Bearcats hit their shots at the line to seal the win.

Lehigh connected on 40.3% (27-67) of its shots from the field, 29.0% (9-31) from three and 66.7% (8-12) from the free throw line. Binghamton shot an efficient 58.7% (27-46) from the floor, 40.0% (4-10) from three, and made a staggering 22 of its 33 free throw attempts. The two teams split the rebounding margin 35-35, but Lehigh grabbed 12 offensive rebounds opposed to Binghamton's four.

Ingram starred for Lehigh, scoring a career-high 25 points with six rebounds, four threes, a block and a steal. Whitlock reached 20+ points for the third consecutive game, scoring 21 points with five rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

"[Josh] was sensational," said Reed. "He ended up making plays and making shots for us right out of the gate."

Caleb Thomas added nine points and two assists while Peter Kramer chipped in five points and a career-high six rebounds. Alvey finished the night with five points while Andrew Urosevic (4p) and Tommy Conniff (2p) also scored for the Mountain Hawks.

Beverly led the Bearcats with 25 points while Quigley (22p), Demetrius Lilley (15p) and Jackson Benigni (13p) also reached double-figures.

The Mountain Hawks return to Stabler Arena on Saturday, December 6 at 5 p.m. to host LIU.
