12/6/2025 8:15:00 PM | Men's Basketball
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men's basketball played its first game at Stabler Arena in 15 days on Saturday, playing host to the LIU Sharks. The Mountain Hawks put up 52 points in the second half but ultimately fell by a score of 87-82.
"Give our guys credit, they fought in the second half," said Murray H. Goodman '48 head coach Brett Reed. "Those first 13 minutes of the game were ultimately the difference."
Lehigh (3-8) and LIU (5-4) have now met six times, with the all-time series tied 3-3. The Mountain Hawks defeated the Sharks 60-59 in Brooklyn last season.
The Sharks opened the game scoring five points unanswered, but the Mountain Hawks kept pace to trail 9-8 with 13:45 remaining. LIU's defense then locked in, holding Lehigh without a field goal for over six minutes to take a commanding 29-10 lead. Trailing by 19, the Mountain Hawks scored seven unanswered to cut the lead to 12 with 6:10 to play, prompting an LIU timeout.
The Mountain Hawks continued to cut into their deficit, as first-year Andrew Urosevic converted a four-point play and junior Joshua Ingram knocked down two free throws to bring Lehigh within six. Another Ingram bucket and a Jake Pike jumper set the score at 31-27 with 2:37 remaining, but the Sharks outscored the Mountain Hawks 8-3 the rest of the way to lead 39-30 at halftime.
LIU maintained its advantage through the beginning of the second half, leading 46-34 in the first two minutes. Buckets from Nasir Whitlock, Ingram and Hank Alvey brought Lehigh within seven before the Sharks went back up by ten at the first media timeout. The Mountain Hawks then caught fire, outscoring LIU 13-4 in under four minutes to bring themselves within three at 57-54 with 11:31 to play.
The Mountain Hawks continued to rally down the stretch, eventually taking their first lead of the game 67-66 on an Alvey and-one with 6:40 on the clock. With the score tied 73-73, the Sharks found some separation, scoring eight points unanswered to lead 81-73 at the 1:19 mark. Lehigh managed to cut the lead to three, but it was all little too late, and the Sharks hit their free throws down the stretch to ice the game.
Lehigh shot 50% (28-26) from the field, 28.6% (6-21) from three and 74.1% (20-27) from the free throw line. LIU connected on 50% (34-68) of its shots, 33.3% (5-15) of its threes and 70% (14-20) of its free throw attempts. The Sharks outrebounded the Mountain Hawks 39-31. Turnovers were a key element of the game, as the Sharks forced 19 compared to Lehigh's 14.
Reaching a new career-high was Alvey, scoring 26 points and ten rebounds to secure the first double-double of his career. Alvey also blocked four shots and recorded a steal.
Whitlock scored 20+ points for the fourth consecutive game, notching 22 points on a perfect 9-9 mark from the free throw line. Urosevic added 14 points with three made triples while Ingram also reached double-digits with 10 points.
Malachi Davis led the way for LIU, scoring a game-high 30 points. Jamal Fuller (20p), Greg Gordon (14p), and Tre'shawn Sheppard (11p) joined Davis in double-figures.
The Mountain Hawks will take a 12-day hiatus for finals before returning to Stabler Arena on Thursday, December 18 at 7 p.m. to take on Penn State Hazleton.
