Lehigh Hosts Penn State Hazleton Thursday For Holiday Hoops

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After a 12-day hiatus, Lehigh men's basketball returns to action from Stabler Arena on Thursday at 7 p.m. to take on Penn State Hazleton for Holiday Hoops. Fans are encouraged to wear their best (or worst) holiday sweater in celebration of the game's holiday theme.
Thursday night's game will be the first-ever meeting between Lehigh (3-8) and Penn State Hazleton (6-6). The Mountain Hawks last faced off against a Penn State satellite school in a 100-74 victory over Penn State Mont Alto in 2014.
If Lehigh wins, head coach Brett Reed's record against non-Division-I opponents would improve to 17-0. Reed would also win his 291st game, putting him only nine away from becoming the second coach in Patriot League history to reach 300 wins.
Lehigh most recently squared off against LIU on December 6, falling 87-82 at Stabler Arena. Reaching a new career-high was Hank Alvey, scoring 26 points and ten rebounds to secure the first double-double of his career. Alvey also blocked four shots and recorded a steal. Nasir Whitlock scored 20+ points for the fourth consecutive game, notching 22 points on a perfect 9-9 mark from the free throw line. Andrew Urosevic added 14 points with three made triples while Joshua Ingram also reached double-digits with 10 points. Lehigh shot 50% (28-26) from the field, 28.6% (6-21) from three and 74.1% (20-27) from the free throw line.
Penn State Hazleton enters Thursday's contest with a 6-6 overall record and 3-2 mark in the PSUAC. Andre Campbell leads Hazleton in scoring, averaging 20.6 points per game. Shamell Ponds (13.0 ppg) and Savion Pressley (12.7 ppg) also average double-digits for Hazleton.
Following Thursday's game, Lehigh will conclude their non-league slate on the road against Monmouth on Sunday, December 21 at 1 p.m.
Thursday's game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and will be available on Fox Sports 94.7 FM and 1230 AM.
