No. 8 Lehigh Heads To Tulsa For National Duals Invitational

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – No. 8 Lehigh is one of 16 teams competing in the inaugural National Duals Invitational, presented by Paycom, Nov. 15-16 at BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla. The Mountain Hawks will be battling over two days for a purse of more than $1 million, including $200,000 for the winning team. Lehigh opened its dual season with wins over Duke and Virginia last Saturday at Journeymen WrangleMania at Liberty High School and then had six wrestlers compete at the Journeymen Collegiate Classic at Freedom High School. The Mountain Hawks will open the National Duals Invitational against No. 2 seed and No. 2 ranked Nebraska. Lehigh's second dual will be against either Michigan or Arizona State.
 
Streaming video for the National Duals Invitational will be available at FloWrestling.org. The only exception will be Sunday night's championship finals, which will be televised nationally on ESPN2.
 
Lehigh had six wrestlers in action Nov. 9 at the Journeymen Collegiate Classic at nearby Freedom High School. Sophomore Matty Lopes, competing unattached at 133, won the Hammer Award for winning the top black bracket at the event. First-year Anthony Evanitsky also won his bracket at the annual round-robin event. In all, five of Lehigh's six entrants finished first or second in their respective brackets. Lopes won a title for the second consecutive week, going 3-0 to capture the 133 Black bracket. He posted a 1-0 decision over Columbia's Evin Gursoy and then beat Mason Leiphart of Franklin & Marshall 7-2. In the final, Lopes rode a first period takedown to a 3-2 decision over Evan Mougalian of Penn. Evanitsky debuted with a 4-0 performance in a five-man round-robin to win at 149 Red. Lehigh's three runners up were first-year Seamus Mack (141 Blue), graduate student Zac Martin (157 Tan) and junior Remy Brancato-Roed (197 Green). Sophomore Jared Schoppe finished fifth at 184 Black.
 
The Mountain Hawks opened the dual meet season Nov. 8 by defeating a pair of ACC opponents at Journeymen WrangleMania, held at Liberty High School. The Mountain Hawks opened the day with a dominant 38-7 victory over Duke, with Lehigh claiming bonus points in all eight of its match wins. Lehigh's second dual of the day was a back-and-forth affair against Virginia, with wins from junior Rylan Rogers at 184 and graduate student JT Davis at 197 carrying the Mountain Hawks to a 21-17 victory. Rogers and Davis both went 2-0 on the day along with graduate student Sheldon Seymour (125) and senior Max Brignola (165). Sophomore Logan Wadle and first-year Mason Ziegler both bumped up to 133 and picked up their first career dual meet victories.
 
Lehigh is one of 16 teams competing in Tulsa at the National Duals Invitational, presented by Paycom. The 16 teams will battle over two days for a purse of more than $1 million, with the winning team earning a $200,000 grand prize. The Mountain Hawks earned an invite on the strength of their 15th place finish at last year's NCAA Championships. Lehigh will wrestle Nebraska at 12 p.m. ET/11 a.m.CT. Depending on results, Lehigh's second dual, likely against Arizona State or Michigan, would be at either 3 p.m. or 5 p.m. CT.
 
The other first-round matches at the National Duals Invitational are No. 1 Iowa vs. Missouri, Illinois vs. Little Rock, Northern Iowa vs. NC State, No. 4 Oklahoma State vs. Cornell, No. 3 Ohio State vs. Wyoming and Virginia Tech vs. Minnesota.
 
Nebraska, Lehigh's first round opponent, enters the National Duals Invitational ranked second in the country and the No. 2 seed in the tournament following a historic 2024-25 campaign that saw the Cornhuskers finish second at the NCAA Tournament with two NCAA champions and eight All-Americans. Returning NCAA Champion Antrell Taylor (157) leads the group of six returning All-Americans from last season. Nebraska also added All-American and 2021 NCAA Champion AJ Ferrari, who will compete at heavyweight for the Cornhuskers. Taylor leads nine Cornhuskers currently ranked by InterMat as he occupies the No. 1 spot at 157. Brock Hardy (141) and Ferrari (285) are currently ranked second. Mark Manning is in his 26th season as Nebraska's head coach.
 
Lehigh and Nebraska have met eight previous times with the series tied at 4-4.  Saturday's dual will be the first meeting between the two programs since the Journeymen Northeast Duals in November 2015. Five of the previous eight meetings were contested at a neutral site.
 
Following the National Duals Invitational, Lehigh will be off from competition the next two weekends. The Mountain Hawks will return to action Dec. 5 when they host Pittsburgh in the home opener inside Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall. Two days later, Lehigh will travel to top-ranked and four-time defending NCAA Champion Penn State in the 113th meeting of Lehigh's most-contested dual series.
