Mountain Hawks Wrap Up Weekend At ITA Regionals

PHILADELPHIA – Lehigh women's tennis traveled south for ITA Regionals on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania this past weekend, sending five student-athletes to compete in singles and doubles play. Lena Dogadalski, Maggie Forkner, Hannah Letzer, Ronit Khromchenko and Giselle Vlassis represented the Mountain Hawks at the event.
"Our team competed hard at the ITA Regional Championships this weekend," said head coach Sophia Geier. "The level of competition was extremely strong, and it was a great opportunity for our players to test themselves and continue learning. I was especially proud of Lena who battled through two rounds of qualifying and then earned a win in the main draw. It was an impressive showing and a great sign of her potential."
In doubles competition, Khromchenko and Letzer faced off against a doubles team from Mercyhurst, falling to them in the round of 64. Lehigh's other doubles pairing was Dogadalski and Forkner, who lost a narrow 8-7 (7-4) decision to a team from Princeton.
Dogadalski, Khromchenko and Vlassis were placed in the qualifying singles draw. Dogadalski started her weekend with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Xintong Zhou of Rutgers before defeating Seton Hall's Jaden Davidson 6-1, 6-2 to qualify herself for the main draw. Vlassis and Khromchenko were both eliminated in the first round of the qualifying round.
In the main singles draw, Dogadalski won her first match 6-2, 6-0 over her opponent from Mercyhurst before falling to Penn State's Brianna Baldi in the round of 32. Forkner dropped her first-round match in the main draw to Columbia's Sophia Wang.
Lehigh's lone participant in consolation rounds was Vlassis, who fell to Julianne Nguyen of Fordham.
The Mountain Hawks are back in action on October 24-26 for the ITA Conference Masters Event at the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center in Bethlehem.
