Lehigh Dominates Lafayette in The Rivalry

1/25/2025 6:56:00 PM | Women's Basketball

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh women's basketball picked up its fifth straight win, downing Lafayette 73-51 in the 108th meeting of The Rivalry, presented by Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institute Saturday afternoon at Stabler Arena. The Mountain Hawks improved to 16-4 (7-1 PL) and the Leopards dropped to 5-14 (2-6 PL).

"It's a great feeling," said head coach Addie Micir. "We played with joy and it showed. We were ready to go right from the start. We don't care who gets credit - share it and shoot it all the way. To see their smiles on their faces says it all."

Lehigh's share-it-and-shoot-it mentality was in effect as all 13 players who played scored. Senior forward Meghan O'Brien led the way with a team-high 13 points. Fifth-year wing Maddie Albrecht was next with 12 points. O'Brien and Albrecht were the lone players to finish in double figures.

"Meghan is an outstanding offensive player," Micir said. "No doubt about it. You have to guard her around the perimeter and the inside. She's always so steady for us, so I love when she can have a breakout game."

Junior forward Lily Fandre was next with eight points.

O'Brien scored the game's first four points and Lehigh would not look back from there, holding onto the lead for the remainder of the game on Saturday.

Lehigh was unconscious from beyond the arc on Saturday, knocking down eight three-pointers on 14 attempts (57.1%) in the first half. Lehigh shot 58% from the field in the first half on 17 makes with 29 attempts (58.6%).  The Mountain Hawks hot first-half shooting helped give the Mountain Hawks a 44-18 lead at halftime.

While Lehigh led 16-10 at the end of the first frame, Lehigh exploded for a 28-point second quarter while holding Lafayette to eight points on just two made field goals in the second quarter.

Lehigh continued to put its foot on the gas in the second half outscoring Lafayette 19-17 in the third frame to take a 63-35 lead heading into the fourth frame. Senior guard Remi Sisselman nailed a three-pointer to put Lehigh up 35 points with 3:52 remaining in the third and that would be the largest lead of the night for the Mountain Hawks.

Lehigh ended the game, shooting 25-of-54 (46.3%) from the field and 11-of-27 (40.7%) from downtown. Lehigh also dished out 21 assists. First-year Keshia Vitalicio tallied a game-high of four assists.

The Leopards shot 20-of-47 (42.6) from the field and 4-of-11 from downtown (36.4%).

While the Leopards outscored the Mountain Hawks 16-10 in the fourth frame, Lehigh's double-digit lead would be enough on Saturday.

Lehigh held a 28-26 advantage in rebounds. Fandre and Gracyn Lovette finished with a team of six rebounds apiece.

Abby Antognoli led the way for Lafayette with a team-high 11 points.

Next up, Lehigh will travel to Annapolis, Md., to face Navy on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Wednesday's game will air on ESPN+.
