Mountain Hawks Battle American in Midweek Game

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh women's basketball welcomes American on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Stabler Arena. The Mountain Hawks are 14-4 (5-1 PL) and the Eagles are 0-17 (0-6 PL).
The Mountain Hawks are winners of their last three straight games, most recently picking up a 54-43 win over Loyola on Jan. 18. Tied 43-43 with 2:33 remaining in regulation, the Mountain Hawks ended the game on an 11-0 run. Lehigh also outscored Loyola 24-9 in the fourth frame after trailing 34-30 at the end of the third quarter. Lehigh led for just 4:53 and the Greyhounds led for 33:05.Â
Junior forward Lily Fandre was one rebound away from registering a double-double, finishing with 15 points and nine rebounds. Fifth-year wing Maddie Albrecht was also close to tallying a double-double, finishing with 12 points and eight rebounds.Â
Senior guard Colleen McQuillen also was big down the stretch, recording eight of her nine points in the fourth frame.
Albrecht has registered a team-high 14.9 points per game. Senior guard Ella Stemmer is next with 11.2 points per game and Fandre is third in scoring with 10.6 points per game. Sophomore forward Whitney Lind has had a breakout season and is fourth in scoring with 7.6 points per game. Lind has finished in double figures five times this season.
The Eagles are coming off of a 76-44 loss to Holy Cross. American struggled offensively, going 11-of-49 (22.4%) from the field. Cecelia Kay finished with a team-high 14 points.
Kay is the lone Eagle averaging double figures (11.0 points per game). American is averaging 54.4 points per game and giving up 70.9 points per game.Â
Lehigh is averaging a Patriot League leading 69.8 points per game. The Mountain Hawks also rank second in the league in scoring defense, holding opponents to 56.6 points per game.Â
Lehigh is 18-38 all-time against American. The Eagles picked up a season sweep over the Mountain Hawks last season. Lehigh last defeated American 66-49 on Feb. 18, 2023.
