Lehigh Uses 14-7 Fourth Quarter Run to Down American 61-55

1/22/2025 9:34:00 PM | Women's Basketball

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh women's basketball pulled out a hard-fought 61-55 victory over American Wednesday night at Stabler Arena. The Mountain Hawks picked up their fourth straight win to improve to 15-4 (6-1 PL) and the Eagles dropped to 0-18 (0-7 PL).

"We've got to let players make plays," said head coach Addie Micir. "Maddie Albrecht, Gracyn Lovette and Jessie Ozzauto provided big sparks, especially Jessie on the defensive end. We knew American was going to be a tough team, they play really hard. They're inching closer and closer to a win, and we knew it wasn't going to be easy. They made it really tough, and I love that our experienced players found a way to make plays."

Tied at 55 with 1:59 remaining, the Mountain Hawks ended the game on a 6-0 run to secure the victory. Sophomore guard Jessie Ozzauto scored the go-ahead layup with 1:08 remaining to give Lehigh the 57-55 lead, and Lehigh would carry its lead for the remainder of the game.

The Mountain Hawks trailed by as many as six points in the fourth frame but Lehigh held American to just two points for the final 8:11.

Wednesday's game featured five lead changes and five ties. Fifth-year wing Maddie Albrecht led the way with a game-high of 18 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Sophomore guard Gracyn Lovette also finished in double figures, scoring 12 points. Lovette also tallied five rebounds, three steals and three assists.

Lehigh came from behind in the fourth quarter after trailing 48-47 at the end of the third quarter. Laura Nogues nailed a three-pointer with two seconds remaining to give the Eagles the lead. The Mountain Hawks outscored American 14-7 in the fourth frame.

Lehigh started the game on a strong start, holding a 21-10 advantage at the end of the first game after knocking down five three-pointers in the first 10 minutes. Lehigh shot a quarter-high 57.1% in the first frame on 8-of-14 shooting. The Eagles outscored the Mountain Hawks 16-10 in the second frame to cut Lehigh's lead to 31-26 at halftime.

Lehigh shot 20-of-59 (33.9%) from the field and 9-of-33 (27.3%) from deep. The Eagles shot 23-of-53 (43.4%) and 5-of-16 (31.3%) from beyond the arc.

Both teams struggled to take care of the basketball as American finished with 26 turnovers and Lehigh committed 16.

Senior forward Meghan O'Brien and Lily Fandre both finished with seven points apiece. Senior guard Colleen McQuillen and Whitney Lind tallied six points each. McQuillen also dished out a game-high of four assists.

Nogues finished with a team-high 15 points for American.

"We have to be sharper, and we have to be sharper to start," Micir said. "American knocked us off our game a little bit. It took us a little bit to settle in. We know we're a team that can make plays down the stretch, so I love that we have that belief, but let's do it earlier."

Next up, Lehigh will host Lafayette in The Rivalry, presented by Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institute on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. Saturday's game can be listened to on Fox Sports 94.7 FM and 1230 AM. Tickets can be purchased here or by calling 610-7LU-GAME.
