Lehigh Welcomes Loyola Maryland For Faculty & Staff Appreciation Day

1/17/2025 2:05:00 PM | Men's Basketball

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men's basketball returns to Stabler Arena for a Saturday afternoon showdown with the Loyola Maryland Greyhounds on Faculty & Staff Appreciation Day, presented by RichMar Florist. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.

Lehigh (6-10, 1-4 PL) owns the all-time advantage over Loyola Maryland (7-9, 2-3 PL) by a slim 17-16 margin. The Greyhounds bested the Mountain Hawks 80-74 in the two teams' first meeting of the season in Baltimore on January 5. Lehigh swept the season series last year, but the Mountain Hawks and Greyhounds have split the last ten meetings 5-5.

If Lehigh wins, they would earn their seventh win of the season and improve to 2-4 in Patriot League play. Brett Reed's all-time record against the Greyhounds would move to 13-12.

Senior guard Tyler Whitney-Sidney scored a game-high 20 points in his homecoming to Massachusetts and the Mountain Hawks shot 60% from the field in the second half, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Boston University Terriers, who prevailed over Lehigh by a score of 63-58 on Wednesday evening. Lehigh's offense struggled to score in the opening frame, shooting 30.8% (8-26) and 7.1% (1-14) from three in the first half. On the contrary, BU started the game off hot, gaining an 18-point lead on 61.1% shooting in the opening 13 minutes. The Mountain Hawks found a renewed offensive punch in the second half, shooting a much higher percentage from the field on route to a comeback. However, a 7-0 run by the Terriers in the final minutes put them ahead for good.

The Greyhounds currently sit in seventh place in the Patriot League with a 2-3 record, most recently having lost 73-54 to American on Wednesday. Head coach Josh Loeffler is in his first season at the helm of the program and has already matched last season's win total of seven. Senior Milos Ilic is the team's leading scorer and rebounder, averaging 13.8 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. Sophomore Jordan Stiemke averages 12.9 points per game off the bench while sophomore Jacob Theodosiou is also averaging double-figures at 12.1 points per game.

Following Saturday's game, the Mountain Hawks will travel to Washington, D.C. to face the American Eagles on Wednesday, January 22 at 7 p.m. from Bender Arena.

Saturday's game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and can be listened to on Fox Sports 94.7 FM and 1230 AM.
