Mountain Hawks Close Out Navy Invitational

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Lehigh women's tennis wrapped up its three-day competition at the Navy Invitational Sunday afternoon. The Midshipmen held five single flights and three double flights.
Two Mountain Hawk doubles duos advanced to the quarterfinals out of the C Flight as they both received a bye. Giselle Vlassis and Bella Peters lost in the quarterfinals to Georgetown's Paige Gilbert and Molly Evans. Hannah Letzer and Audrey Harrington also suffered a 6-4 loss in the quarterfinals, falling 6-4 to Towson's Sania Suchinsky and Chloe Courtnage.
First-year Alina Shyani was Lehigh's lone student-athlete to compete in the A Flight Singles. Shyani defeated Karen Verduczo out of George Washington 4-1, 4-0Â in the round of 16. Shyani then suffered a 6-2, 6-0 loss to Georgetown's Emily Novikov in the quarterfinals.
Allyce Gaborik and Vlassis both competed in the B Flight Singles and they both picked up wins in the round of 16 before falling in the quarterfinals. Gaborik suffered a loss in three sets falling 5-1, 4-6, 11-9. Vlassis fell 6-4, 6-2 to Georgetown's Natasha Kavarana.
First-year Ronit Khromchenko was the lone Mountain Hawk playing in the C Flight, falling 7-4, 4-0 to Navy's Anna Jordan.
Hannah Letzer and Skye Yonehara both played in the D Singles. Letzer dropped her match to Georgetown's Molly Evans in three sets, 2-4, 4-0, 10-7. Yonehara lost 4-2, 7-4 to Villanova's Valieriia Kornieva.Â
Peters and Harrington both received byes to the quarterfinals out of Flight E. Peters beat Sofia Anderson 7-6, 2-6,10-7 to punch her ticket to the semifinals where she ultimately fell 6-1, 6-0 to Niamh Campbell. Harrington suffered a 6-0, 6-4 loss to Jordan Thomas in the quarterfinals.Â
Next up, Lehigh will compete in the ITAs held from Oct. 11-13, held in Philadelphia, Pa.Â
