BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Four Mountain Hawks have been named to 2024 Patriot League Baseball All-League teams, as announced by the league on Wednesday afternoon. Senior shortstop Tyler Young and junior outfielder Jake Whitlinger were named to the first team while sophomore right-handed pitcher Cole Leaman and junior Rafe Perich earned second team honors.
Young's selection is the second all-league nod he has received in his career, as he earned second team honors in 2022. Whitlinger, Leaman and Perich are all receiving the first postseason awards of their careers.
Young had an excellent senior campaign for the Mountain Hawks, batting .307 on the year and .326 in league play. He finished second on the team and fourth in the Patriot League with 55 hits and was first on the team and second in the league in doubles with 14. Young recorded 2+ hits in 16 games, including a 4-4 showing against Army West Point on May 4.
Whitlinger was one of Lehigh's most consistent bats all season long. The junior from Harleysville, Pa. batted .319 on the season and .325 in league play. His 51 hits ranked third on the team and ninth in the Patriot League. He was one of the hardest players to strike out in the entire league, as Whitlinger was only put down 16 times in 160 at bats on the year.
After making only one start in his first season, Leaman put together a solid sophomore season as Lehigh's day one starter. Leaman started in all 11 of his appearances, recording a 2.31 ERA with 49 strikeouts in 46.2 innings pitched. Leaman was excellent in Patriot League play, as his 2.02 ERA was the fourth lowest amongst starting pitcher against league competition.
Perich earned a spot on the second team after being one of the Patriot League's top bats all season. He finished the year only behind Patriot League Player of the Year Sean Keys in batting average with a mark of .382 and hit .323 in league play. Perich's 58 hits led Lehigh and his six home runs were tied for second on the team. Perich's 1.064 OPS ranked first on the team and fourth in the league while his on-base percentage of .492 was second best in the league.
The Mountain Hawks finished the season with a record of 24-23-1, defeating Holy Cross in the final game of the season to finish above .500.
