Five Mountain Hawks Land on All-Patriot League Team

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Five members of the Lehigh men's lacrosse team were named to the All-Patriot League teams, as announced Monday afternoon. Senior attackman Scott Cole and sophomore defender Richard Checo were named to the first team while senior midfielder Quinn Armstrong, junior faceoff specialist Sean Dow and sophomore defender Luke McAuliffe were all named to the second team.

The All-Patriot League teams and major awards are voted on by the league's head coaches. This marks the third straight season that Lehigh has had five members land on the all-league team. Checo and Cole were Lehigh's two representatives to also land on the Patriot League preseason All-League team.

Cole is now a three-time first team All-Patriot League honoree. Cole leads the way for Lehigh with 42 points after scoring 35 goals and dishing out seven assists. The Dallas, Texas native has put up 125 goals throughout his career, which ranks third in program history. He needs three more goals to tie Mark Duncan '98 and Dan Taylor '15 for the most goals in program history and four goals to become the program's all-time leading goal scorer. Cole has scored a goal in Lehigh's last 26 games. He has recorded a hat trick in five games this season. Cole was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week two times this season.

Checo is now a two-time first team All-Patriot League selection. The Oakton, Va,. native has been a steady presence on defense, recording a team-high of 33 caused turnovers while corralling 49 ground balls, which ranks second on the team. Checo has corralled 2.36 caused turnovers per game, which ranks third in the NCAA. In just two seasons, Checo has picked up 87 caused turnovers, which ranks third in program history. He has caused a turnover in 12 games this season and has seven games this season tallying multiple caused turnovers.

Armstrong earns the first All-Patriot League honors of his career after a breakout season. The Baltimore native exploded for a career-high 33 points this season after scoring 26 goals while dishing out seven assists. Armstrong's 26 goals mark second on the team. He was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career on April 15 after recording a career-high of five points (4G, 1A) in the 9-7 win over then No. 20 Colgate. Armstrong has recorded five hat tricks this season.

Dow also earned the first All-Patriot League honors of his career. The Simpsonville, S.C., native had a dominating season in his first season as Lehigh's primary faceoff specialist. Dow has won 57% of his faceoffs this season, which ranks second in the Patriot League. He has also won 63% of his battles at the stripe during league play. Dow has also picked up 6.77 ground balls per game, which ranks second in the Patriot League. He was named the Patriot League Faceoff Specialist of the Week two times this season.

McAuliffe is the third Lehigh representative this season to earn his first All-Patriot League honors. McAuliffe had an outstanding season for Lehigh, becoming a shutdown defender and anchoring a defense that has limited five teams to single digit goals. McAuliffe has caused 13 turnovers this season, which ranks second on the team. He also had the game-winning caused turnover in the 13-12 win over Lafayette, forcing a turnover from the Leopards with 26 seconds left.

Lehigh finished the season with an overall record of 8-6 and a Patriot League record of 6-2. The Mountain Hawks will be the No. 2 seed in the Patriot League Tournament and will open up tournament play on Friday at 7 p.m. against the highest-seed remaining at Army West Point.
