Cole and Checo Earn Patriot League Weekly Awards

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following a 13-12 overtime win over then No. 20 Boston University, Lehigh men's lacrosse earned two Patriot League Weekly awards. Senior attackman Scott Cole was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week, and sophomore defenseman Richard Checo was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week.Â
This is Cole's second time this season earning Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week honors. The Dallas, Texas native was phenomenal in the win over the Terriers, scoring a team-high of four goals. Cole scored all four goals in the second half to help propel Lehigh to a comeback victory after being down 9-4 in the third quarter. He also notched the game-tying goal with 21 seconds remaining in regulation to send the game to overtime. Cole now has 123 career goals, which is the fourth-most goals in program history. He needs five goals to tie Mark Duncan '98 and Dan Taylor '15 for the most goals in program history.
Checo earned his second Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week honors after another massive game against Boston University. The Oakton, Va. native caused a game-high of five turnovers while also corralling two ground balls against the Terriers. He caused the biggest turnover of the game with 2:12 left in overtime as it led to Lehigh's game-winning goal. Checo is second in the nation in caused turnovers per game (2.54). He also has recorded 87 caused turnovers, which is the third-most in program history.Â
Junior faceoff specialist Sean Dow earned a Patriot League Honorable Mention after going 16-of-29 from the stripe while corralling eight ground balls. Dow also scored his first career goal against the Terriers.Â
Lehigh will close out the regular season at Lafayette on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Easton, Pa.
